Ok, this will be a contender for “shallowest thread of the year” , but I need the collective parent experience here. I have realized in the last month that my eyebrows are turning gray/white quite rapidly, one more than the other. I don’t have more than a few strands of gray in my hair yet, so this was pretty surprising.
My eyebrows are not thick ( I don’t need to pluck them) and were kind of medium brown. Does anyone have any experience with having their eyebrows tinted? I know salons will do this, but at what cost and how long does it last? What color do you have them tinted? Match your hair? Is it worth the cost?
I really don’t want to spend the next 50 years drawing them in with eyebrow pencil (or tattoo eyebrows -yuck!).

Aaah yes, from the land of botox and tushie lifts. My mother dyed her hair and her eyebrows. My father dyed his hair and eyebrows.

I do not dye my hair and eyebrows. I get my natural color restored.

I also dye my eyelashes. How long it lasts depends on how fast your hair grows. I believe that I go every 4 and a half weeks

The dye used for the eye lashes is different…I believe my hairdresser lumps the brows with the rest because it takes a few seconds to apply the brow color. Lashes…$30 I think.

I do not think this is shallow at all. My eyebrows are super light (dark brown hair, go figure). I also have a bit of a scar through one due to an unfortunate encounter with a sibling and a Tinker Toy can at an early age. Anyway… I would LOVE to have mine tinted/dyed/something so I wouldn’t have to mess with the eyebrow pencil daily. It never occurred to me til now. Must say, don’t care at all about my hair, which is getting some salt & pepper. But the eyebrows – that just needs to be taken care of daily, and maybe someone can describe the options!

I had to laugh out loud about the tinker-toy can. Between that and the Lincoln-log can we had all kinds of fun with toy containers back then.

Yeah, for my brother, closing his eyes and spinning in circles with arms extended and the empty can in his hand ended in trouble for his little toddler sister.
Not that I BLAME him after 48 years… well, maybe a little. Maybe I should make him pay for eyebrow dying.

Cross post

I dye my hair at home (light neutral brown) about every four weeks and put the same dye on my eyebrows while I’m at it. I use a cotton swab to apply it to my eyebrows and leave on about 10 minutes. Works for me.

I have eyelash extensions (love, love, love) and every couple of visits, they’ll also dye the eyebrows. Just a little darker than they are normally (I have light brown hair and green eyes.) It takes 5 min tops. I no longer wear eye makeup most days – with the lashes and the brows, it frames my eyes nicely and I’m out the door. My eyebrows had gotten thinner and lighter over time.

A good friend of mine was convinced by her hairdresser to tint her eyebrows. She did not care for how it turned out on her, but it did fade over time. I didn’t think it looked as bad as she did, but maybe she was just not used to seeing herself with darker eyebrows?

I wear bangs which mostly cover my eyebrows, so that’s one way to avoid the issue!

As we get older, our eyebrows do often fade. I had a makeup artist at Laura Mercier do my eyebrows, and just a little subtle darkening and shaping really made a difference. This is the same principle. It’s not like it’s really noticeable or that you turn into Brooke Shields with thick eyebrows.

While you’re deciding, get a good eyebrow brush and light brown eye shadow and sort of “cover-up/fill-in” areas that are needed. Bobbi Brown has many options and they’ll show you how to do it. Stays on all day.

I dye mine, whether doing roots at home or the occasional visit to hairdresser.

I bought a product, like a mascara, at Sephora. Its called Tinted Brow Gel, by Anastasia Beverly Hills. It takes seconds to put on and lasts all day

My hairdresser does it while I get my hair cut, just a medium brown. Sometimes have had them waxed as well. Typically I don’t bother, but if going to an event where I need to look more put together, have started to do this. My British heritage makes everything look washed out as I age. Never had much in the way of eyebrows to start with!

Appreciate the other suggestions.

I have my brows waxed and tinted every 5 weeks. I’m blonde so I have my brows done in light brown. I used to have my lashes done too but it didn’t add any volume so I stick with mascara now.

I just had mine shaped and tinted at the Benefit Brow Bar. I love it. I have naturally blond eyebrows and they’re relatively thin but she did a good job shaping and tinting them. I plan to go back in a few weeks.

I’ve had my hairdresser do mine over the years. Unfortunately, about 3-4 weeks is the most I’ve ever gotten out of the dye before it starts to fade.

What is the “Benefit Brow Bar”? Is this a place just for brow treatment? Or… is there drinking involved as well?

I had my (blonde) eyelashes tinted recently. Lasted about a month. Worth the $23 plus tip. Let me go without eyeliner/mascara for normal everyday. Thinking about doing it again – but I don’t have desire to visit the salon all the time. I get my hair cut and colored every 5 weeks, with highlights about every 3rd or 4th visit.

I consider it my inalienable right to have hair the same color as my kids – at least that’s when they were towheads. And hair that goes with my skin tones and eye color – fair and hazel. So I am blonde.

They’re located in different stores - the one I went to was at Ulta but I’ve seen them in department stores also. It’s sort of like a salon for brows. Run by the BeneFit cosmetic company.

Though it would be nice if they offered complementary wine with your waxing! :)

Okay, I would absolutely go to one of these… if there was one within 300 miles of my house.
Nearest is Chicago. Maybe I can squeeze in a stop in LA while dropping D2 off at college this fall… (intparent schemes…).

This reminds me of the time I was in college a million years ago. A girl in the dorm whose mother was a cosmetologist (or so she said) told me she could dye my eyelashes. She mixed regular hair dye with FLOUR and put it on my lashes. I couldn’t tell any difference at all. I think I paid her $5 for doing it. Wish I had that $5 back…:)
