Tips and Tricks for Makeup Lovers!

I don’t wear much makeup. But I had thought about a “Random question” about facial sunblock. So this thread is timely.

My makeup tip came from my 19 year old daughter. I have always had dark circles under my eyes and always used concealer there. She pointed out that I have very dark shadows in the inner corner of my eyes and I should use concealer there and then hit it with sheer highlighter with a tiny bit of sparkle. I look awake for the first time in years!

Use color corrector maybe, la girl has great cheap ones

Aquaphor or Vaseline would probably cheaper by the ounce, less irritating, and receive a similar effect

It’s for the foundation balm

Makeup with sunscreen is a scam, you’re only applying a thin layer not the actual amount

Lab muffin science (a licensed chemist) did an experiment on this

What sort of coverage are you looking for?

Good to know @rosechild. I didn’t buy it because it had spf but I will just ignore it. i rarely ever wear makeup—mostly for weddings, haha.

Sorry, I was being facetious.

Actually, I use olive oil on my face when it needs a heavy emollient.

Yes to color corrector. I’ve been using Cleu de Peu concealer for several years. It’s the best I ever found. But I just recently started using color corrector under it and what a difference! I use NARS highlighter corrector. Orange tinted. I put it on with a tiny brush, just the dark area, then pat it with another and let it set. Then all I need is a tiny bit on concealer. Those shadows disappear.

Fun thread!

I started researching makeup two years ago when I was getting headshots and the photographer said the best tip she gives all her clients is “wear more makeup!” Okay…!

I found and love Angie Hot and Flashy’s YouTube videos. She’s 62, looks amazing and reviews tons of products (make up and skin care) and demonstrates application. I follow her full skincare routine morn/night.

Choatiemom - she recently did a review of Jones Road.

She was the first influencer I ever followed! I love her videos. It’s so fun when she demonstrates all the non-invasive cosmetic procedures. I love her lookbooks. I wish I could do her diet!

This is a great thread, thanks!

I admit I watch a lot of 30-something make up ladies. I watch Nikki La Rose because I really like her. However, if you are someone who has not used makeup brushes, do not be like me and do not buy them. The kids call it Big Brush and I fell for it. I still love Nikki, but I can do everything the way God intended–with my fingers.

My next tip is foundation at my age (47) is on its way out. I use Dr Jart BB Cream, but the one posted upthread is next on my list to try.

I also use bronzer, it just warms me up a bit. That’s even what Martha Stewart says!

I use a cream blush. I currently use Milk makeup that I got with points from Sephora.

I stopped using foundation about 30 years ago when it seemed to be noticeable, rather than enhance. I think I’m going to start trying the tinted moisturizer. I’ve been using a mineral tinted sunscreen, and I do like the smoothness it provides. I don’t want to wear it all the time, but made me think about the moisturizer.

Wow, if I looked like her without makeup not sure I’d wear any. I have always had dark circles under my eyes, just an inheirited trait (as my pediatrician supposedly pointed out to my mother when she was concerned about it when I was very young).

I used almost all Clinique products from my teenage years until a few years ago (still use some of their moisturizers, eye cream, and serum at night). In my 50’s I’ve branched out and really like products from mostly three different lines:

It Cosmetics: CC cream (foundation) and under eye concealer
Merit: blush, minimalist stick and bronze balm
Thrive: liquid lash extensions mascara and a number of their eye brightener sticks

Looking forward to checking out some of these videos.

Yes my issue is that I have pigmentation problems and have had tried to even out my coloring.
It’s not easy because I have excessive hair on my face, and freckles and gray-like skin tones. (Yes I have to get facial waxing or threading done to reduce the excess hair growth). The sad part is that the make up people and the aestheticians have tried to work with me and get frustrated, and then they feel badly that they can’t help me. So I do have product to try to even out my skin dermatológica is what works If I’m consistent with it.

The only thing that works is completely covering it in foundation and they have to mix 2-3 foundations to cover the gray and the pink and yellow skin tones. Plus I have Native American ancestry, so I have high cheekbones and a flat face. I thank God every day that my husband found my facial features “unique” but still fell in love with me!
I hate wearing make up.

I just love the IT skin care line, discovered when a friend gave me a small jar of Confidence in a Cream, but I find it too expensive to buy myself (I’m a drugstore gal). Around Christmas every year, DH “gifts” me a full set of full-size IT skin care products which I make last as long as I can.

I was at Ulta yesterday and tried on the IT tinted moisturizer with 40 spf. I really like it, but it was close to $50 for such a small tube. So, I decided to try putting on my own sunscreen, then some department store tinted moisturizer for $17. If that IT tube had been 3 times the amount I would have bought it.

I’m still going to wear mineral tinted sunscreen when I’m out in the sun a lot (even wearing a hat). Also…I read that moisturizing needs to be done first with mineral sunscreen. Mineral sunscreen has zinc oxide and that sits on your face deflecting UV rays. Needs to be on top.

conmama - I also use mineral as the last, top level sunscreen

I use a combo of both chemical sunscreen (use a Korean one recommended by Angie Hot & Flashy) then an organic mineral one, and top with a Neutrogena tinted mineral. I start the whole thing off with an unscented moisturizer & Vitamin C as the base.
