Tips/Apps For NEW Ipad Owners!!!!

WOOOHOOOO!!! :)

Recently I started a thread about Ipad envy. MUCH to my surprise, there was one for me under my tree yesterday! (thank you children of mine! I know it was with their prodding that my H passed over the credit card and jumped in to support a WONDERFUL not necessarily needed, but much wanted splurge gift!!)

So, I do have a Itouch and know some about apps, etc. Have not had much time yet to “get to know” my Ipad.

Goals are to:

 1. Figure out how to connect to my laptop w/Itunes on it to sync some of my Itouch apps/games onto the Ipad.
 2. Figure out how to connect my personal email or work email with the email icon on the bottom of the Ipad.
 3. Research and purchase a case for it - something with a little personality or color, something that is easy to hold, not slippery; is protective AND can fold into the tri-fold for propping. (SUGGESTIONS APPRECIATED!!!)
 4. Figure out “newsstand”.
 5. Decide on some very useful apps.
 6. Figure out the “ICloud” thing - I did click “yes” for ICloud upon my initial configuration of the Ipad.

Any other new owners out there? Seasoned owners with simple but valuable suggestions?
Let’s share questions/ideas!

I have the Kindle app on my IPad. When I recently travelled, it was so nice to have ONE device that could be used for multiple purposes. I had about 30 books on my IPad to read. I was also able to check email and the like when there was wifi. So nice and easy.

Right now, I’m trying to figure out how to get my pictures from my PC based laptop to my IPad…I’m sure it’s really easy but I just need to do it.

you may be able to use the " cloud" to do that.

I have the cloud…but my PC “stuff” doesn’t go to the Apple cloud…at least not that I’ve found.

I have a Nook - will I be able to somehow see my Nook library on my Ipad?

And do I understand the ICloud to mean that for instance anything on my Itouch can be “seen” used on my Ipad??? And what do I have to do to get those synched???

would this help?
[How To Get iCloud’s Photo Stream Working On A PC](How To Get iCloud's Photo Stream Working On A PC)

There is a Nook app.

And you can also do epub (library loans) with Overdrive app.

iCloud has its pluses and minuses. On the one hand, if you have several IO devices–as I do–it’s nice to have everything synced up, but if you are a philanderer–as I’m not–you have to be careful with iCloud since–unless you’re careful with your settings–you spouse might see all your cheating communications.

I also recommend Skydrive, an alternative browser that will enable you to see flash content. Iswifter is a free browser that willo do this too, but lacks some functionality, such as the fact that your history disappears whenever you exit.

^^^^hdml5 might be a better flash and safer. To move photos from pc to cloud try dropbox or email.

Actually, made a mistake. It’s Skyfire not Skydrive that’s the flash viewing app.

If you currently subscribe to HBO via cable, the HBO app gives you all their content via IPAD, no additional charge. For recipes (organizes online recipes) PAPRIKA. And the PBS app gives you access to all their current programing.

I had one until I was robbed of it. :frowning: Good passwords. Yep. Good passwords.

While I might sound like a broken record with my multiple criticisms of the iPad, the biggest one is that the iPad is a total failure for displaying pictures. After downloading several applications and trying various “tricks” my conclusion is that it is extremely hard to use the Ipad to show pictures you are prepared to adopt the Apple types of libraries and slave with the moronic iTunes.

In so many words, when it comes to photo libraries, the iPad just “sucks” even more than it does usually. As far as setting up iCloud, best of luck to you! :)

Yesterday’s successfully completed task was to sync music and selected apps from my Itunes/Itouch to the iPad. Yeah!

Next important task is to figure out how to sync my iTouch calendar with the calendar on my iPad - can this be done? I carry my iTouch always and use it for my work related appointments - won’t carry the iPad all the time though.

Also need to explore and purchase a case to protect the front and back of the iPad and to have the ability to stand the iPad up (tripod-ish). Any that you particularly like? I saw some at TJMaxx before Christmas and I’m guessing Best Buy and Target carry them. Maybe should give them a little time to restock, huh? Would prefer to buy in person than online I think…

I got the Apple color front magnetic cover which folds into the stand AND some sort of padded sleeve which it all (iPad and magnetic cover) fits into. To me, that is the best solution.

Xiggi, I got my photo albums on IPad and they are awesome. We were at a friends and showed them to all on their Apple TV option. They were terrific there too. I did NOT take the pics with my IPad…I took them with my (nice) Sony camera.

It was very easy to put them on the IPad once I read the directions:) All I had to do was go into my ITunes account (while my IPad was plugged into my computer) and select photos. Then I was given the option of either putting ALL or selected albums on my IPad. I chose the two albums I wanted and poof…five minutes later more than 1000 beautiful pics were on my IPad…easy peasy.

What I just learned yesterday–I go to some websites all the time and you can put a shortcut to that website on the homescreen of the iPad. CC available with one click…

How did you make that shortcut for favorites?

I downloaded the cc app and have been visiting here that way .

I saw the apple magnetic covers - nice but I was thinking I would want the back of the iPad covered as well.

My favorite IPAD “hardware” is a stand with speakers. It allows me to listen to music, or put on a bed side table to watch a movie while it charges. Also a great stand in the kitchen while I’m using my recipe app. [Amazon.com: iHome App-Friendly Rechargeable Speaker System for iPad, iPhone and iPod: MP3 Players & Accessories](http://www.amazon.com/iHome-App-Friendly-Rechargeable-Speaker-System/dp/B004I8WH6U/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1325009248&sr=8-4)

Abasket, I have three IPad cases that I love for different reasons. I have a Targus that is VERY durable and easels up for easy reading and the like. It covers both sides of the IPad with a nice padded cover. It’s the “heavier” of my cases but I do like it a lot and it’s what I took with me when I traveled recently for three weeks.

I also have a leather Incase cover for my IPad. It’s much lighter but also covers both sides. No easel action on that one. But it does weigh less. I use that one when I’m home and not taking the thing anywhere.

I also have a red leather IPad case (I got it on sale at Amazon and just couldn’t resist it for the price). I use it when I just feel like a change…sort of like having a change in purses. It is about the same as my Incase…it might actually BE another Incase…don’t remember.

D1 got me a Targus case for Xmas, it is one of my favorite presents. This one rotates, so it could stand up both ways.

I like the People tablet on iPad. I could download them and read them on a plane.

The least favorite thing I like about iPad is copy and paste. It is very hard to do.
