Traveling to Boston this week. I have some general directions but am someone who likes a lot of info, tips, landmarks, etc. to jog my memory when I’m traveling. I’ve been to Boston once, but it was brief and I was traveling with someone (years ago) and just “followed”.
Flying into Logan via Jet Blue. Need to get from Logan to the Westin Waterfront on Summer Street. Have been told to hop on the Silver Bus Line and take SL1 (south station?) two stops to the World Trade Center stop. Then a 5 min walk to the hotel which is near the convention center? How does that sound?
Tips please and where/what I’m going to follow in the airport to get to the Silver Bus Line - I’m told it’s free from the airport? - will I follow signs for “transportation”? Do I need to take a tram or anything to get to silver bus line or can I walk?
Or, would you suggest I skip the silver bus line and uber it???
Assuming I make it to the hotel…I’ll have a few hours before my first meeting - sites to see near the hotel? Any “must stop” coffee/quick food stops I should make? Most main meals will be provided by my meeting but I wouldn’t say no to a “must have” bakery or otherwise stop!!!
Near the hotel - any shopping nearby? Can I safely take a run a short distance?
I took the Silver Line to the South Station on my way back from Boston a few weeks ago; it worked great. Took a cab from my hotel to South Station – it was snowing, and I didn’t want to deal with a suitcase in the wind and snow.
Depending on the time you arrive, street traffic can be pretty awful.
Glad you’re weather will be better. April should not mean snow and high winds!
I visited Boston in April and went around the city with public transportation. It was easy. Silver Bus Line was free. Seems like your hotel is on the silver line so you don’t even have to go to South Station.
The following is from the hotel website:
By Subway, The “T”
The hotel is located on the MBTA Silver Line at the World Trade Center stop. Once at the World Trade Center stop, proceed 2 levels up to the Mezzanine level. The hotel is located at the end of the foot bridge on Summer Street, next door to the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
Just follow signs for Ground Transportation at baggage claim level and go outside. The Silver Line pulls up at the curb at each terminal and the stop will be marked. A display should also tell you how long before the next bus comes. It’s not always correct, but they run frequently.
I’d take the Silver Line to South Station and walk ( unless it’s raining ) I have taken cabs in from the airport , but not Uber. Cabs add in the fee for the tunnel on top of the fare.
I live in the Boston area and have been to conferences at this hotel. It is right across the street from the World Trade Center stop. You do NOT want to go all the way to South Station!
Some of our favorite restaurants at the Seaport are Rosa Mexicana $$ and Del Frisco Steakhouse $$$$, both up D street about a 10 minute walk from the Westin. There’s also a place called “No Name” that people like but I’ve never been. You’ll be in a nice area to walk around/take a run if the weather is nice…but we find the area a bit secluded and difficult for public transport other than taxi.
@abasket Have you found the Rose Kennedy Greenway? It is a series of parks where you can walk and run–no motorized vehicles. The Greenway intersects with Summer St right by South Station. Ask at the hotel for directions or you can get a map on google.
You will be in the Seaport district and it is a beautiful area to just get out an walk. It is on my wish list to move there when I retire. You will be about a 5 to 10 minute walk to the Greenway, or you can just walk along the waterfront, to the Greenway or continue towards the North End. My daughter works in the North End in the summer and after I drop her off at work, I always spend an hour or so just walking the area or finding a bench and sitting with a cup of coffee. Enjoy.
Well arrived safely and with no problem with the silver line - so handy!
Yesterday I ventured out and ran along the marina/harbor and walked in the area of the children’s museum and “tea party” museum.
Our meeting today is actually in the area you mention - the greenway - leaving in a few minutes to walk the mile-ish to our meeting venue for the day - and I know we cross in that area!
I enjoyed a beautiful few days in Boston this Monday until yesterday. Driving back to DC it was gorgeous until we got into Delaware, then it got dark and poured until we got back to DC.
