Tips for getting classes at OCC?

I’m going to be starting occ next fall and I already have 1 unit from the pe class there. Is it really as hard as the councilors make it seem to get classes? Or as long as I sign up on the date I get and petition should I be fine? I’ll be in a bio major so I’ll have to take the bio, chem and calc classes so how will those be? And also what about the English classes.(a100 and a101)
Any tips or anything on how to get the classes any better? Thanks a lot!

It is pretty hard especially for science majors but everyone’s luck varies. Usually registration priority is given to those with the most units or to those that are in special programs. If your registration date is pretty close to the day registration begins then you should be okay securing at least an English and/or science class. Be sure to apply to other cc’s! Good luck!

As for tips to registering, look at the class schedule beforehand. Pick a handful of classes you’re interested in, view the ratings for the professors, then start planning an ideal schedule for yourself. Be sure to have backup classes incase some classes end up full or canceled. That way when you register you won’t be rushing to figure out what you need.
