Tips for Someone Independently Studying 3 APs.

With the exception of AP US history, all my AP classes are basically a joke (Note: I am taking four AP classes within school hours) in terms of the workload. Yes, we acquire a plethora of knowledge within class, doing timed essays and completing things meant to be due at the end of the class period. However, I e-mailed each teacher over the summer questioning the volume of the workload outside of school, and they have said that they will keep it to a bare minimum. If that standard has not changed, than the most I’ll be doing after school will be completing fill-in-the-blank packets and writing the ocassional research essay. Considering that my school only permitted me take one AP course sophomore year (AP World History), and that in order to obtain the National AP Scholar distinction one must make 5s on 8 AP exams, I don’t see what the problem is with pushing myself a few notches higher.

Here are the APs I’m independently studying for:

AP European History
AP Government and Politics
AP Chemistry

Now, to study, I bought Princeton Review books for each subject. Is that sufficient enough, though? Or would you recommend that I buy actual textbooks suitable for the AP level?

Thank you.

i think you should look at the consolidated list of ap books under “ap tests preparation” and buy those books
if u feel that u get enough out of review books then u probably shoudnt buy textbooks for all three
if u feel that it will be tough to learn everything through review book then i suggest u buy textbooks from ebay

For AP Gov all you need is the prep book.

For AP Euro…hmm I dunno maybe buy a cheap textbook online to compliment the prep book.

For AP Chem…definitely buy a textbook.

I think you might want to get textbooks, especially if you can find them cheap online, unless you’re really confident you only need the review books.

yeah, for ap chem get the zumdahl textbook.

for ap euro i would use pr plus modern european history.

for AP Euro buy: Modern European History by Birdsall S. Viault.

I’m taking AP Euro this year and it is one of the books my school uses. I heard it’s a life saver. Know the entire books and you’ll do great on the final!

As for the Ap Chem…I myself am self-studying the subject and was also wondering which book to buy…

AP Chemistry: Zumdahl textbook-I am using this book this year
AP Euro: Modern European History by Birdsall S. Viault-used this last year and crammed with it, I don’t recommend you to do that, but this book is what helped me pass.
AP Gov: try one more prep book just for the extra information.

Wait the AP Scholar award requires that you get 5’s on 8 AP Tests!!! wow, if I somehow manage to get 5’s on all 5 of my AP classes this year that’ll still be impossible…darn it!

What classes are you taking in school? I took the AP Euro test after Global 2 Honors and barely studied for Euro at all. Got a 5.

Wow at the above thread.

Good luck!

Thank you for the valuable advice, everyone! I really do appreciate it. And yes, I bought textbooks the other day, one being Modern European History. A great book. Again, thank you.
