A few days ago after MIT rejected me, and I got sort of bored, so I started working on an interactive flash-based website for learning SAT vocabulary words.

There are quite a few flash sites on the internet that quiz you on SAT words, but none that are really “in depth”, and sophisticated enough for some studiers.

So here’s how the system works:

If you’ve never used it before, you’re automatically asked some basic questions like “What score range are you looking at?” and “What schools are you thinking about attending?”, and “If you’ve taken the PSAT or SAT Critical Reading before, what did you get?”

Based on those questions, it assigns you a goal score and a “Where you are now” score. For example, a person whose target score is an 800 effectively is aiming to be able to know all hard words, whilst a person aiming for a 500 is aiming to know nearly all of the easy words and 50% of the medium words.

Using the “where you are” statistic, it gives you a score based on your previous performance that indicates what you’d get on the verbal if you took it today.

The system saves your performance up to a certain point, and keeps track of right/wrong, etc. and keeps where you are saved so you don’t have to wade through the “target score” screen over and over again.

I’m currently in development, and it should take a few weeks before I’m done (I’ll need to literally enter in hundreds of old SAT words), and I’ll put it up for free on the internets (I’ll try to get ads though, I need cash), and I’ll post it on CC.

If there are any features that you’d like to see in a vocab study guide, than you can tell me here, and there’s a very good chance I’ll be able to implement them (if they’re somewhat realistic, i.e., no magic needed).

Here are a few screen shots of what’s there so far:
