This is the ‘fence’ - anything (within CC rules) goes…
As a small person, I’m up to lifting 45 lbs in the upper body, 85 lbs lower, almost at my goal!
My new instagram now has followers/likes from France, Italy (strange Sicily following), Africa, Australia, England, Wales, Scotland, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, India, and the US. It is so much fun!
rockymtnhigh2 - what is your new instagram about? how’d you get those followers? weightlifting?
it is cool you have people from all over for sure!
My only “20 in 2020” list item that I can remember was to use some of the piles and stacks of fabric I have accumulated. I was doing great, making baby blankets out of the flannel and fleece blankets out of the fleece. A friend sometimes rents a table at the craft shows and I was thinking of joining her to sell some of the blankets as my piles of fleece and flannel morphed from raw fabric to blankets. I also made some ‘bowl cozies’ last Christmas and thought I could get a pile of those made. Now there will be no craft shows.
Then came the masks, and requests for more masks, and figuring out how to make them without elastic and then figuring how to make them with elastic when the stock finally arrived. Masks don’t take much fabric, and the piles are no longer shrinking as fast. Then came the requests for special themed masks (back to school, dogs, holidays) and I bought MORE fabric.
Now I’m just a little tired of making masks. Sewing a 9x7" square doesn’t take much imagination.
I sent my niece new masks last week (and a fleece blanket, 2 baby blankets, and some cozies - got to keep moving the merchandise). Her friends and co-workers all said “Oh, did you get a new mask?” Getting a new mask is like getting a hair cut or new glasses - everyone notices!
No, weightlifting is just a home goal of mine along with 3-4 mile walks per day.
I have had an Instagram account since 2016 that is private. It sort of documents our adventures since retirement.
I decided that it was time to add a public but anonymous one. That one is photos or videos taken while doing daily walks- not of me, but of the dog, animals, nature, plants, and scenery. I’m talking videos of bushes blowing in the wind, wild animals I come across, and beautiful sunsets and scenery. I make sure I identify the plant/ animal/ rocks correctly. Then, the hashtags get lots of attention. I am amazed at the response. I’m also following other people’s daily posts (translated) from all over the world. It’s a surrealistic feeling of being there.
rockymtnhigh2 - thanks for the info. that sounds great and enjoyable and nonpolitical. I don’t do instagram, but was on national geographic insta account this spring and I was amazed at it. the photos - the stories - the people following – sounds like what you do. you could be the next National Geographic!
The refrigerator that we put in our kitchen when we built this house 23 years ago has reach the end of its life. The appliance store can’t get us a new one till mid September but they are offering us a loaner. The loaner comes tomorrow so this afternoon I took down the taped up pictures my youngest drew for us. One is a birthday picture she made for me when I turned 50. This year I turn 60. Funny to feel sad about the refrigerator going. I think it and the pictures remind me of the past and the experience we had as a family building this house. It’s only a refrigerator yet it’s a big emotion.
On the other hand part of the budget I had for my 60th birthday trip that isn’t happening will have to go to pay for the new refrigerator.
My D will call me soon on her drive home from work and I’m going to share with her how happy and the thoughts I felt as I removed the pictures she gave me over the years with such love.
I follow both National Geographic and Earthpix on IG; both have amazing pictures! That is until one of them posted a picture of snakes, which absolutely make my stomach turn
I will be mindlessly scrolling, when a snake will appear on my screen; does not make me happy.
I don’t like being startled by snakes, but we had one for over 10 years. Add that to the list of “things I would have never dreamed I would do” back in college… Weekly vacuuming my house with a snake draped around my neck. And letting it crawl under my shirt if we lost power in the winter to keep it warm. He was a good pet. Super easy to take care of and one of the few living things on planet Earth that I am not allergic to!
@AnAsmom what was the name of the WVA resort? Staying in a small cabin during a blizzard sounds like the beginning of a romance novel…or a horror story.
@HamSBDad what about going on bicycle or motorcycle rides, or boating/jet skiing/kayaking, or horseback riding on trails? Or kite flying? Or star gazing? Or golfing? Or enjoying taking pictures of whatever beautiful sights you see and towards the end of your trip you guys going through the pictures to chose which ones you want for your memory book? Or sitting around a camp fire making s’mores? Or this is inside, but what about taking a virtual cooking class?
I have to say, I’ve enjoyed dreaming about things I would do on vacation.
@ClassicMom98 Your post made me shudder! LOL!
Thanks, @ClassicMom98, vacuuming will never be the same again.
We recently got back a bunch of videos we had sent off to Legacy Box that we had converted and put on a thumb drive. We’ve been spending some time most evenings watching bits and pieces. One segment came on tonight that had a date stamp of today’s date - July 31, 2000 - exactly twenty years ago!
Our filming was crappy, the technology was crappy, and we recorded long segments of silly things, but it sure is fun to see ds as a three-year old!
@Hoggirl, do you know if Legacy Box copies everything, even blank tape? We have really old tapes that have who knows what on them. I’m sure parts of them are blank. I don’t believe we have the ability (technology) to view them at this point so I guess I should just send them all to LB? Have been thinking about this for awhile.
I’m sure you’re having fun looking at the old videos!
@melvin123 it was Oglebay Resort. We stayed there close to thirty years ago so can’t really say much about the place as it is now.
Their website seems quite informative if you’re looking for more details.
@collage1 - I am not sure?? Do you mean you have whole tapes that you think are blank or gaps in your tapes that have some recordings on them?? Gosh - I really have no idea. Their customer service is very responsive.
We sent two off back before the pandemic started because I wanted to check them out before I sent everything we had. Those turned around in 3 weeks. We had gotten our box for the remaining items and then everything shut down. I was reluctant to send them in. I contacted them probably in April to make sure they were processing as dh was tired of the large box being around. They assured me they were but that processing times were slower. That was true. The second batch of 9 video tapes took three months. It was worth the wait. Certainly a nice diversion from Netflix.
Good luck!
I’m going out of my mind today. It is too hot to be outside, all museums and indoor activities are closed, I’m sick of cooking, I can’t focus long enough to get through more than a couple of pages in my book, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera!
@melvin123 Thanks for the ideas. We do a lot of boating and will spend part of that time out on the water. I think we might try to hike to some of the waterfalls/swimming holes in NH. We are working hard at limiting our interactions so any activities need to be outside and somewhat isolated. I like the kayaking idea or maybe canoeing some rivers around here. Definitely want to take lots of pics!
Our meet-up in Wheeling WV was really great! We spent a leisurely day walking around Oglebay Park, then Wheeling Park, then watching a big tugboat for a laker go through a lock. On our walks we saw a really nice bike path along the Ohio River by the lock, and golf courses in both the parks, along with big pools. We ate all our meals al fresco at the parks - not the tastiest food, but nice scenery and great to be outdoors. I’m happy that we had a great trip and feel like we were able to socially distance well from others. Life is good!
