Sorry people I’m with @abasket. Never got into sinners alley either. This is also more my jam
On a lark when buying some flower plants at Lowes in early July I bought half price veggie plants - a yellows quash and a zucchini. DH planted them for me, since digging a biggish hole was harder than I had bargained for. We were not expecting much, just some distraction from as stressful month.
WOW - both are now more than 4x as big as original plants… and we may actually produce. Mostly we were just wanting to watch some nice green leaves, so this is fun.
@runnersmom Could you use something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Products-privacidad-artificial-decoraci%C3%B3n-exterior/dp/B008QZSITG/
I loved my multi focal contact until about 5 years ago when I guess my cataracts started. I could see near, so I wore glasses to work, but left them off all day as I could see the computer screen. Still do the same thing today, but will wear my disposable contacts for events, like wedding and Bar Mitzvah. Next month I am finally getting the cataracts done and looking forward to it! I will still need glasses for distance, but should be corrected to where midrange will be good. I actually though of paying out of pocket for the multi focal lens as insurance doesn’t cover it, but decided it wasn’t worth it.
I’m sitting on the deck at our second home, looking out over the garden and the water. Peace. No jet skis today!
H had to go home to accept delivery on our new fridge, it’s arriving tomorrow, so it truly is peace and quiet here. No, I won’t be watching the news or Jeopardy repeats tonight.
I hit up the bookstore last week, and along with a bag full from the library that will eventually have to be returned and whatever is on Overdrive, I am in my happy place indeed.
I got some earbuds as a bonus with the new phone I got in May. I have never used earbuds or headphones to listen to music (ever!). But yesterday I tried them out when I went for a walk. Not bad. I do need to download some more music though.
Maybe I’ll really “go wild” and create a playlist for running.
^^^^ Girl, it’s a whole new world!!!
I love my playlists!
Can I complain?
I’m off of work for the next 5 days. Hooray! Now if only the darn kayak would come (I wanted to insert a much stronger word in place of “darn” but I know it would have flagged my post).
Happy Birthday!
@momofsenior1 I can’t believe you didn’t get that kayak in time for your bday. They owe you some cash back or something!
Tomorrow I will harvest my cherry tomato! Yes, that’s singular.
@WayOutWestMom, also a quilter here. Have been making masks (600+ now), but I have quilts for great-nephews and charity donations where the tops are done, but they need to be quilted and bound. I’ve been sewing while watching Hamilton.
We’re going to head out to a state park Friday and try to have a picnic.
Comcast sent me a new cable box, which arrived at 3:30pm. The Washington Capitals had their first game today starting at 4pm. Had it installed by the first faceoff!
Today the Caps and Nats played. Finally. I’m a happy camper. S2 and I text during the games, so with a seven hours time difference and earlier start times, it’s easier for him to watch/chat and still get up for work in the morning.
Hope its been a great day!! Happy birthday!
they found it?!?!?!! When are you getting it??
@momofsenior1 sorry about the kayak! Ours took about 6 weeks to come in.
DD’19, as part of her naturalist internship, went to kayak school the last two days. It was definitely more intense than she thought it would be! To top it off, near the end of it, she flipped it on the river and lost her brand new glasses
She felt SO bad. A few phone calls later, I had located a branch of her glasses shop on her and DH’s way home that had the same frame and they had a new pair made for her in 8 minutes at a 20% discount because they felt sorry for her I guess. Wish I had thought to send her with her old glasses but it didn’t even occur to me.
Tonight she is going camping and taking the kayaks (just on a calm lake) so I guess she’s not too sick of it.
I’m enjoying my paint and sip and diamond painting evenings with my family. I love finding new hobbies.
@Dream20school @abasket @sabaray @bouders thank you so much for all your great suggestions, and I’m sorry I didn’t respond yesterday. I got swamped, then I was too exhausted. I’ve never explored any of Ohio and I’ve saved your suggestions because I’m looking forward to seeing these places someday. I totally forgot to take into account, though, Cuomo’s 14 day quarantine, and Ohio is on the list, so Ohio isn’t doable for me right now. Bummer. And we’ve been to the Finger Lakes many times and love them, they’re beautiful! But it’s a slightly long drive for my H and we’re kind of excited about going someplace we’ve never been before. So I think we are going to meet in Wheeling, WVA, unless WVA gets added to the list too. I’ll post after our trip and let you all know (if you’re interested) in what there is to do in Wheeling, WVA!
Sometimes, the simplest things are the ‘bestest’ things. Last night, we, H, S and I, picked up a picnic box from a local restaurant and took it to some local gardens. We snagged a table and sat an ate for an hour or so, enjoying the outdoors, yummy food and some good wine we snuck in, in a thermos! After we finished eating, we strolled the gardens for an hour before closing. It was so enjoyable, and definitely nothing we would have made an effort to do six months ago!
@melvin123 it’s funny you mention Wheeling, WV. We’ve driven through Wheeling many times on route to other places and occasionally broken the long drives there or nearby. It is a very scenic area to drive around, IIRC.
But your post also brought back some great memories — DH and I celebrated our first anniversary, many, many years ago, in Wheeling in the middle of a blizzard. We were snowed in our cabin and could barely see our way to the main building, which housed the restaurant, for our celebratory dinner.
I just checked to see if the resort we had stayed at is still there and it is!
I’ll be on vacation in a couple of weeks. No real plan except to spend time with daughter before she heads back to school. Thinking of some day trips, hiking, exploring waterfalls and swimming holes and also spending time out on the ocean.
What else to do that is outside and not crowded?
Annual mammo done and the girls are well.
I’ve been down because this week was our vacay week with all the kids and grands at my very favorite beach house. Hoping for next year!
My daughter has been looking forward to showing her landlubber boyfriend the coast of Maine for a long time now. So of course, this week Maine had its first fatal shark attack EVER, about 15 miles from our house as the crow flies (34 miles of driving). The 63-year-old NYC woman, who owned house on Bailey’s Island, was swimming 20 yards off shore with her daughter when it happened.
The beach they’re going to has restricted people to going in no farther than knee-deep. So the “kids” decided not to chance it. 2020 just keeps giving…
