I did…but due to lack of solid records, my mum is not able to help me filing them out.
The thing is, my dad’s way of handling money was not very…prudent. He was kind of like how we describe teens- impulsive, always swarming to what they think is ‘cool’…u know. His tendency of putting money at wrong places is the reason why we need the aid in first place. I and my sis already had policies in our name, and we got compensation enough for my education after he died. But…well he had taken loan over every little thing, bike, home, everything, and what was meant for our education was spent to repay the loans. Our condition is so…well we can’t even sell our house(damn my old man…really)…which is why I am so desperate…

I am talking about the plot, Tipu…please wiki the show…lol

I didn’t realize my first post went through and haha yes, that’s in Boston but the “tipton hotel” is nonexistant.

Meghna, I’m so sorry to heear about that…

Well…it is a prop for a tv show…so it WILL be non existent…^_^

Mmmhhhhmmm.

Megna, your story makes me so sad! If you can’t afford to pay for app fees, really don’t worry about it. Contact the individual colleges you’re looking and ask them for assistance.

Guys, the NACAC fee waiver works.

You won’t even have to explain anything. Just write a sentence in the space provided and the fee waiver will be granted.

Neeeeeeeeeeeemo!

HI.

Nemo didn’t you have like 600ish posts? What happened? :S

I hope pixie doesn’t cross my post count anytime soon.

She’s at Amherst

And no, Meghna isn’t a jinxed name, she’s at Amherst man :P

No credit card?

I think you should get yourself one of those Kotak Internet Debit Cards

I’m not very sure about what it’s exactly called. Google it.

I think other banks have got similar options too.

Meghna, UIUC doesn’t offer aid to international students!

UMich, Georgia Tech, most public/state universities don’t as well

I like how my current examinations don’t count.

I am writing my papers much better somehow because there’s not much tension on my head.

I finished learning Macbeth by heart, from scratch, in 6.5 hours yesterday.

Man, I’m awesome :P

Lol…I can afford filling out App at least (but not many of them),the problem is credit card…my mum has debit one, and it doesn’t work. I dun noe how to fill out the App…
and if UIUC doesn’t give grants…well I am doomed. My mum is googling all the uni I selected, and she is not going to let me apply to a Uni which is not in the ‘top 100’ list of hers…UIUC was, but no Finan aid? That is stingy. I tried to reason with her for Sarah Lawrence, but ryt now, the Uni is not in the list, so she is saying no to it…I have filled out the App anyway though, well except essay (god damnit)…and need app fees to complete it.

NTU and UBC…well UBC was amongst the first I started applying for, but I had no idea how it is…And I still dunno (as u could hav guessed from my UIUC application how much of an idiot I am) which of the ‘good’ unis(Mothers are so troublesome sometimes) hav good Financial aid too…and which are reach/safeties for me?

Lol…we had to learn out ‘A midsummer night’s dream’…I had to make out a whole chart of who loved whom, then after the puck’s mishap ‘who loved whom’, then when he corrected it, and when the things were finally fine. I swear it was the most mind boggling thing I ever did. When we heard the name of queen of amazons there, Hyppolyta…God The whole class was snickering. lol

Don’t you know that you can also pay the app fees by cheque or money order?

But seriously, get one of these [Gold Net Card with Kotak Mahindra Bank](<a href=“Error - Page not found”>Error - Page not found)

Call your bank up they’ll have a similar card facility.

UBC is really good

A Midsummer Night’s Dream = watched the play. Complicateeedddd man

yep it is complicated…And damn funny…
We can pay by cheque? really?..I didn’t know that…lol

Hi Meghna. I’m just replying to your PM atm.
There’s no restriction to college talk here, but just to make you aware, we generally do all college talk here- http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/india/1031378-indian-thread-19-a.html
And I officially welcome you to TiT!

PS to everyone- This tradition has just disappeared hasn’t it? Previously everyone used to nicely welcome the newbies. I remember the old people had done so for me.

Aniruddh- WHY are you mugging up Macbeth anyway?

Tippu- Kota is called the “IIT hub”. It’s a city composed of IIT coaching institutes where students enroll in open schooling and generally spend the day at coaching. It has Bansal Tutorials, the best tutorial for IIT coaching where you sit in a hall of 150-sometimes 300 students prepping for IIT. They generally churn out many top 100 rankers. That doesn’t mean other coaching institutes there are bad. Resonance is the most Rigorous- more than Bansal. It also churns out many IITians.
Kota people are students preparing single mindedly for IIT and they generally do reach there. And “Kota people” is not necessarily a bad term at all. For people who haven’t been in IIT coaching (it is obvious GuitarClassical hasn’t), they could never understand what a different person you become at the end of it. IIT questions are not a joke, they are picked up from Russian olympians and made up by the Profs. To be able to solve them, you need a presence of mind, an ability to think beyond the usual, to imagine and construct things you haven’t learnt about before. IIT toppers are also mainly International Gold Medallists. Come now, would you say this showcases a “Narrow” mind? Anybody who says so doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
Please note, I am not talking about the scores of students who join IIT coaching. I am only talking about the serious focussed IIT aspirants, those who generally do make it there. You require good teachers and years of hard work/ slavery. That does not make you some idiot narrow minded person who can’t “think”. Believe me, IIT requires more than just an ability to think.
IIT top rankers would fit very well at MIT with their ability to think, thank you very much.
I really cannot stand it when people go about parroting the false stereotype about IIT. India’s education system is rote based but NOT the IIT exam. That is what makes IIT IIT. IIT questions require a lot of thinking and less of solving. My instructors used to tell me the toughest IIT problem should be solvable in 4-5 lines, no more. The main part has to be done by the mind. But since most cannot get over the rote system(however much they protest- Oh the system sucks, We want to learn, not mug up!!) they themselves cannot solve the ‘good’ IIT problems because they cannot think beyond the ordinary. They follow the same old method while trying to solve and come up a blank.
I agree with whatever else guitarclassical said though. It goes with what I believe.

Meghna why don’t you get a credit card made now? They’ll just look at your fixed deposit amounts and current bank balance and you have to fill in some forms. It’ll reach you in 3 weeks or so. A credit card is always useful. I can’t imagine where I would be without one.
