It’s a safety Aniruddh. To be honest, now that I think about it I don’t even like it that much. Ithaca’s my other safety and I like it a lot better.
A 30 is in the range of 1980-2010, although some say it’s 2080. It’s not a spectacular score, but I suppose it’s ok for the first time. I’m debating retaking in February. I think I might-it’ll be during revision and I can learn all the nasty punctuation rules by then.
I don’t think I’m getting my SAT scores this month. Siiigh -.-

^Your not scoring excellently in the SAT is proof of it being the stupidest test ever. You probably know a lot more vocab and probably can analyse passages much better than me. (not that I’ve done excellently but w/e) And your grammar should definitely be better than mine. Direct Hits did nothing for me. All I remembered were the interesting stories…not the words.

The indian judicial system is a laughing stock, nemo.

And so is the government.

I live in a country where 10 people in their 20s come from nowhere and take the country hostage within a few hours. Great. Just great.

Sorry to hear that pton :frowning:
Dw dude you’ve got a lot more stuff in store for you :)

How about boston college as a safety, nemo? It doesn’t req a supplement as well :P

Or uiuc… From what I’ve seen on cc most ppl get in

This is one of the reasons why I don’t like isolated/rural colleges.

Wellesley sounds like an interesting place. Both Wellesley and Swarthmore are close enough to urban centers unlike Williams.

^I get what you mean. However, although it’s isolated, I like D’mouth. Yes, the drinking culture holds me back, but Dartmouth was actually my first love. Not HPY or whatever, but Dartmouth. Then I came to know more about the weather, party scene…decided it’s better to RD. I like the D-plan!

I don’t get why people don’t like Williams. I mean, I know it has less of an international population, but it’s a great school, produces loads of PhDs, has great school pride. What keeps you all back? I remember Bluebox mentioning that he’s the only Indian at UNC and he’s pretty happy there. Is it something to do with prep school kids? (something I only recently came to know)

Williams was too preppy for me. That, and it’s location in a generally dull town. Middlebury and Colgate were enough as far as small town schools go. Shame really, because Williams has an interesting essay prompt.
I was considering Dartmouth, but I didn’t like it for the reasons you mentioned(Too isolated and Greek life is way too predominant). My counselor advised me against it; she said she couldn’t see me at a place like Dartmouth.
The good thing about Wellesley is, although it’s strict, it’s not restrictive to the point of being stifling. It’s location is in the suburbs, and the fact that it cross registers with 4 other colleges and is part of the 12-college consortium means social interactions aren’t limited to only girls, and I like that.

BC isn’t a safety! It’s acceptance rate is 30%! Besides I never liked it much :stuck_out_tongue:
I’m done looking at colleges at the last moment. Deciding to apply to UChicago was bad enough, and that’s all I can take for now.

C’est vrai. The thing is, it needn’t be this way. I don’t like people who trash India completely; we have a LOT of flaws, but we have immense potential. We have over 1 billion people, for Christ’s sake. Harnessing that potential is key, whichever way we choose to do it. It’s remarkable what we have achieved so far, even if it’s a small segment of the population. Imagine providing every person with equal opportunities to thrive; we’d be unstoppable. Yes,this is a mammoth task and we have to battle bureaucracy, corruption, poor leadership and what not, but I’m still hopeful. I know we’ll get there some day. We’ll probably baffle the world in our journey getting there, but it’s not like we don’t baffle the world enough as it is (Honestly, Europeans cannot get their heads around how India functions). That’s the great Indian jugaad for you; we may bungle things and do everything at the last minute, but like the proverbial Indian Groom we’ll get there in the end and everything will fall into place :)

Gosh, I have such lofty ideals. Forgive me for that rant.

Haha, thank you for your faith in me, however undeserved it may be. I don’t know, I probably could do well for on the SAT if I bothered. But I really could not care less. They’re all scheduled at very bad times of the year when I have far better things to do. And once again, I suck at standardized testing in general. Even my teachers were a bit baffled with my results, they expected me to score 2200+ or the like…clearly wasn’t meant to be :p

Well put. Don’t apologize. I love reading your posts.

^ Eggjacklee. :D

Aniruddh, you can send it now. I just cleared my inbox.

Thanks for being so nice guys. Haha, I seriously suck though. This was a web-series and the part wasn’t even that big! Uhhh, I guess I am meant for I-Banking after all. ;)

Why aren’t any of you applying to Stanford??!!

^Need aware + low acceptance rate + many selective schools already on list. :)

^^ I will most definitely apply there in three or four years. :)

Here is another example of a Wellesley tradition. Step Singing days.
[YouTube - 2008 Wellesley College Step Singing](<a href=“2008 Wellesley College Step Singing - YouTube”>2008 Wellesley College Step Singing - YouTube)
You’ll notice that the class of 2008 was mostly wearing red shirts. Each class is assigned its own colour. Class of 2015 is yellow!
I love that it has so many traditions.

^ Interesting. Looks like a fun place.

What are you doing up so early/late? Girl, you need to get some sleep. zzzzzzzzz

Arunemo, I sent my application to Dartmouth partly because it’s need blind and partly because I still like it for a variety of reasons: i’m an outdoorsy person, and Dartmouth is in an excellent place to go hiking, trekking, exploring basically. The D-plan allows me to take more courses. Additionally, while the greek life scared me very much once (still does), I recently began corresponding with a dartmouth student. He has dispelled the notion that all D’mouth students walk around with a mug in the hand or party all week. However, it is still slightly low on my list. (But I love that it’s known as one of the most academically rigorous!)

I fully agree with you. It’s going to take time, loads of time, but we’ll definitely reach there. We have a population almost impossible to manage, and to meet everyone’s needs is simply not possible atm. On top of that there still are many villages where people survive on a bowl of rice gruel a week, and where electricity isn’t going to reach, even in the next 100 years. I like the focus of the Congress on aam aadmi. I love their schemes for the rural man. It might be corrupt, but it’s heading in the right direction.

It’s morning. I already got some sleep in the night. :)

My favourite word is Power. Took me long to reach to this conclusion. Close following is Happiness. (not that I have a favourite word per se)

Btw, Which college has the most Indians (or relatively a large number)?

It’s not.

I used to think it was Purdue, but apparently that’s not the case …

USC and UIUC. Definitely.

Here’s a link about Indians at USC

Haha, I love how you bring up random desi-isms (Desisms?) on the thread :p

Pixie covered it. I’d be delirious to think I stand a chance at Stanford.

Class of 2015’s color is Yellow? I guess that’s alright, although I would’ve preferred Purple or Red. I’m glad it’s not Green though.

arunemo: Lawl sorry i thought that BC was insanely easy to get in :stuck_out_tongue:
I think you have the best writing skills here. This proves that the SAT does not measure anything whatsoever.
And I get your point about India but I was referring to the 26/11 terrorist attack actually…

I have no chance whatsoever but I’ll try transferring :P

Transfer to stanford!!
Make sure you’ve the nobel in the freshman year…
