TiT#18 ver2

ani, sorry to hear that. I hope your first fight doesn’t result in another “ex”.

I hope he doesn’t become overprotective.

school opening delayed again!

Yes, he does. He also loves to play hide-n-seek.

Like daughter, like daddy. :)

Thank you DD (aka AA)!

Nope pix I meant that someone else’s death can determine your life in a way you can’t change. Meh, it’s hard to explain so I’ll stop.

Anyway, did you guys see this?

Should I feel guilty for liking this? :p

Not so much. The quality of world cricket has decreased somewhat over the past few years, imo.

PD, yes I saw that on HuffingtonPost earlier today and I was very tempted to share that.

It will be interesting to read the full report when it comes out later this month.

Aniruddh, you’re perfectly right. I have no clue what he’s talking about. Anyway, how can a slum dweller start an NGO among all the other things he listed?

But his approach with his essay is a very good one.
I really liked his opening line. Is that some scene from Slumdog millionaire? (Kill me now, I still haven’t seen it :()

I remember reading some website the opening lines of some Stanford essays. They served as examples of catchy opening lines. I tried to employ the same (catchy opening line) strategy in my CA. It started as

*…The air reeks of sweat, dirt and bodies that haven’t been washed for days. Gaunt faces scarred with sunken eyes dot the vision…as the throng of bodies hanging onto the metal bar still pushes against… *

It’s catchy and I know it. I can hear the applause. Jk jk!I can’t say anything else, except that it’s a story. Tbh all my essays are stories in narrative style, but only CA has this strategy. Bharatanatyam essay started with statement of philosophy behind it, third essay (containing Harry Potter/ Noddy that I wrote two hours before deadline and only submitted to H and P) started with adorable story of fantasy. I used 4/5 essays in all. Pomona was a completely stupid poem, which I’m very happy with.

I think the worse thing one can do is write a pity essay though. Atleast he didn’t employ that. I’ve read a few, and they would make me reject a great applicant was I on the committee. :/

What did the rest of you write on? Since app season is over, we can finally talk! :)

UnitCircle- I would love it if you’d share that with me. Please and thank you daddy.

(I’ve been meaning to write this for so long.)

ANSROX!!! Where have you been? How come you don’t post here anymore? Even though you’re a '14er and we’re all (okay except two) '15ers, you should at least visit here sometimes. How have you been? And I’m sure you have a lot of trivia to tell us.
I know you came back for winter break. I bet it felt doubly awesome to have Indian food again! I bet you never felt as happy to be back home!
You have to tell me how you are coping with the winter there. Coming from Mumbai, I’m sure the weather must be a shock. You must have felt hot in Mumbai winter now?
Are you still thinking about transferring?

Wait, what essay are we talking about? I didn’t see an essay.
Your essay beginning sounds good Pix! What was it about?
My CA essay was on Romania, and my Yale Supp was on writing (Tippu and R know). All my other colleges have “Why Us?”, short answers, or no supplement.
Pity essays rarely work. I wouldn’t reject an applicant if he/she wrote a good pity essay (oxymoron?), but it certainly won’t increase their chances. I personally love witty essays more than any other sort. Much respect for anyone who can write a funny and meaningful essay.
Ansrox is really random. Just saying.

HAHAHA I know right? I mean, talk about self-help first :stuck_out_tongue:
Sorry, I am mean.

I’m meeting ansrox like tomorrow or something. That moron needs to come to Mumbai though. He lives in Pune!

And Tippu I really don’t care, it’s more like a fling anyway so yeah

My CA was a semi-pity essay in the sense it talked of the ‘pity’ I have for others. My H essay was a metaphorical essay that I bet most will not understand on the first reading. The only person who’s read it couldn’t make heads or tails of it. ;)

I do think though that it’s impossible to earn $5000 for a slum resident (based on what I’ve seen here). Yeah the things he listed and the way he listed them do make his accomplishments seem sketchy.

“Won international & national awards in essay competition”

How’s that supposed to mean something?

That person probably understood it the second time, although I don’t imagine that Harvard adcoms want to read an essay twice to understand it.

yeah i am a random soul. hey perfectpixie whuzzup
whuzzup ya guys ?
how’s it going ?
i love the winter especially the snow!!!
i just loooove indian foood! it is soooo awesome !
yeah i live in Pune(>mumbai just saying anirudhhc)
oh man vacation feels good
how’re you guys doing?? tippu, pixie, arunemo, anirudhhc, all of yall hows it going?

edit: hell yeah i’m gonna try transferring (i love minn though ,it is HOme and it is awesome) i got decent enough grades lets hope they get me in!
good luck wit your appsssss

hi ansrox. Nice to see you post more than a single liner.

How simple or difficult is the transfer application process? I imagine it must be tough getting transcripts and recommendation letters from your high school?

^ Oh my. lol. Well, you write really well so I am sure you made it sound good anyway.

I just read through his entire chance thread. Is it just me or is his writing strangely reminiscent of one who was banished from TiT not so long ago (he whose name we shall not mention ;))? I might be wrong though.

You must see it asap! That reminds me, I watched Breakfast at Tiffany’s last weekend. Haha I had to tell everyone I really liked it, but I actually didn’t. Not exactly my cup of tea. :)

PD, we are on the same wavelength here.
This is exactly what I wanted to tell my DD.

Okay, i did get that feeling too! Eee! But i didn’t get a chance to verify. That response 2 my daddy brought on d suspicion. his resume is almost same. The sat score threw me off track. Im getting rusty. I must speak 2 padre about another similar interesting thing when i get time. Adults should be informed of discrepancies, and im an obedient daughter. Well, sometimes.

Must be a ■■■■■ re :P

Dream on.

ani, ans, Do either of you speak Marathi?

Nope.

Ans got a 4.0 this semester. Saala. Maaro pakad ke usse!

My sis and broinlaw just left! :(
