title for an art project?

DS18 is submitting a piece to a juried art show. He is required to title his work. He says he can’t think of anything that isn’t “cheesy” and wants to name it after his Physics teacher. The name sounds french and is pleasant sounding, I googled it and it doesn’t have a meaning. Does anyone think this will be an issue?

If you do give a title, it’s good to have some connection with the art piece – evocative of the subject or object. That may help the jury.

That said, if you want to use the teacher’s first name or surname, and it has an appealing sound, why not? My daughter is (was) an artist and she won a couple of juried awards, but I don’t recall the titles – these were self-portrait pastels, so Joanne 1 and Joanne 2 would have been fine. (Not her name…)

Added for fun: after she won an award, the head of our school board said that he thought it would be nice to have some student artwork for the hallways of the school, in honor of the student and the art department. Up til then the hallways only had plaques and medals won by student athletes. But when he was told that the winning piece was a nude, he changed his mind!
