Thanks

this was discussed earlier by us EA people. the general consensus was no title - your essay should be more of a personal reflection/diary entry.

Hmm… I don’t agree with you at all Harpingchic. Of course, you can write it that way, but a good title can be very creative and give the essay a sense of cohesion. For instance, I had a title for mine which didn’t really make sense until the end. At the end, one realizes its importance and it makes the essay better.

So, seven nights, my advice to you is to use a title if it enhances the overall meaning of your essay. Don’t just title it something like “Why I Like Running”, though.

thank you for the replies

Title, with Newt’s caveat

I had a title for my Common App essay but not for the Supplemental App essay.

I didn’t title my essays. I just put “Personal Statement” and “Common Application Supplement” on top. I don’t think it really made a difference.

I titled mine. I think it gives them an interesting focus if you tie them in correctly. And, like newt said, don’t make the title an elementary-sounding one.

Like Surburbian, I titled my personal essay, but not the activity one. It was fitting. Newt’s advice is best.

I titled both essays. I just couldnt resist putting them in because they fit with the theme of the essays but couldnt be worked into the content. So it made sense to use hem as titles. But incidentally, I title most essays…
