Title similar as everyone else's...

Hello everyone. I’m new here and am thrilled to see that there is a “Can I get in” board.

I am a Chinese-American female - first generation - senior seeking admissions at pretty selective colleges. Right now the schools I’m applying to are [ranked by preference]:

 1. Berkeley 2) Cornell 3) Columbia 4) Wellesley 5) Pitzer 6) UCLA 7) UC Davis 8) UCSD 9) Vassar 10) Mills 11) SF State, and Harvard is a dream that is most likely unattainable.

and the everyone’s favorite: Chinese school

Oh, and I teach Math and Science at a summer program for low income middle school students (I am a returning alumna).

So what do you guys think? Berkeley, Cornell, Columbia, and Wellesley are the four that are most worrisome to me.

Should get into Berkeley for sure (Go Bears!). Cornell and Wellesley more likely than Columbia, I’d imagine. Good luck!

wow, six hours and it’s already on the second page.

Berkeley/UCLA: match
UCSD: safe match
UCD: safety
SFSU: safety

hahaha…you retook a 760 Math II…

no comment. :/

B/c it’s Thanksgiving, bump?

Agree with kyledavid80 on the UCs.

Cornell–Match
Wellsley–Match to Slight Reach
Pitzer-Match
Vassar–Match
Mills–Safe Match
Harvard–Reach (sorry) (need 2250+ SAT, plus at least a regional academic award minimum

If you can get the SAT Is up another 100 points (to 2200+), consider applying to Stanford. It’s still a slight reach, but your background might get you in. (Also, they don’t score individual points anymore, just to the closest 10 points–780, 790, etc.)

Good luck.

P.S. I retook a 793 to get a 800 (but it was in SAT I Math I–and I was taking SAT II Math II at the same time anyway–got an 800 in that also), so people do retake good scores (although I think retaking a 793 is a bit much, I’ll agree).

lol, thanks. I’m applying to Harvard for helping them with their admission rate (aka just because).

Would a regional award be like a Northern California Math Award or an award for only San Francisco students?

Regional award is anything that isn’t just for your school. So, yes–both of what you put down would be good. Although, keep in mind that the bigger the region that the award applies to, the better.

So winning something like a science award as #1 in the Pac-10 region (4 states of California, Arizona, Oregon, and Wasington) would beat out something like an award for best in SF school district. Something like the Pac-10 thing is what you would need for Harvard–although that Northern California Math Award would be awfully close to what they want–and might just get you in.

Sweet. Looks good. Definitely putting that my team (which I was captain of) won City Champs.
