To clutter or not?

My dad died in the 70’s, but I just recently found his wallet in a box of photo albums. It was really amazing to see what he kept in there. In addition to the old fashioned library card that reminded me of our weekly trips to the library, I found US and foreign currency that was signed by men who served with him in France/Italy during WWII. There was also a tiny photograph of him and 3 fellow soldiers. Imagine keeping those things in your wallet for 30 years, but never talking to your kids about what it really was like to fight in that war. I don’t know what to do with these things; to me, they feel very historic, but hardly museum-worthy.

I agree that the above sort of thing should be kept but you would be surprised how many people don’t want it. I have left a stack of similar things in the house when we are done with the sale, I’m not going to throw it away, I’ll let them figure it out. Like my mom, for example has a box of love letters from my dad that she absolutely will not let any one see, when her time comes I would be surprised if they were still around I’ll bet she’ll destroy them. And that’s OK, its hers to do. But I have run into stuff that I am sure the owners did not intend for anyone to see.
