To go to a really good school, do you have to become an officer?

<p>To go to a really good school, do you have to become an officer of a club or multiple clubs? What about UCs or Ivy Leagues?</p>

<p>I’m sure there have been exceptions, but in general, it seems to be the trend for an Ivy-caliber student to be an officer of maybe two or more clubs.</p>

<p>(. . . personally, I don’t know how they manage it.)</p>

<p>Being an officer may help, but it’s not mandatory. You can still show your passion for a club while being a member and gaining recognition as a member through awards and how you describe your position in college essays.</p>

<p>When it comes to Ivies, it’s important isn’t the memberships and titles that you hold, but what you accomplish through your activities. What you accomplish will be reflected by awards, recommendations, your essay and what you say during your interview.</p>

<p>Just having a club presidency isn’t going to impress the committees. Organizing a major project such as a fundraiser or service project, however, could impress the committee depending on what the project is.</p>

<p>Ivies are far more interested in the depth of your activities than how many activities you are juggling.</p>
