To HD or not to HD?

I’m seriously thinking about upgrading my Kindle e-reader to a Kindle Fire. What would be the reason to choose HD? Also, my Kindle has 3g and the Fire that I can afford does not. I wonder how much that would bother me.

Anyone?

Kindle Fire will give you e-mail, movies, web surfing with Wi-fi. Color and back lit screen.
HD I think includes music and camera also.
really depends on whether you have consistent access to internet and what you want to use your device for.

Mostly I use it on the express bus, so it seems that WiFi might not be that great of an option. Hmm. Thank you!

The Fire doesn’t keep a charge for very long. I have to charge my Fire every day, which is certainly not the case with the regular Kindle. I prefer to read on the regular Kindle and do web things and apps on the Fire.

I have an Ipad3 that I charge everyday, but that isn’t an inconvienence. ( I also use the web & watch movies on it everyday)

However, if you were going to go somewhere that charging would be a hassle, say into the Peace Corps, then something that was simpler would be more practical.
With my ipad, there are things I can turn off to extend battery life, I expect the Kindle Fire has similar options.

If the primary function was reading on the bus, I think the basic Kindle would be enough, unless you need backlighting for evening rides.

Wellspring–really, you charge it every day? Do you use it a lot? I have a Nook color that I leave on pretty much all the time, keep the wi-fi off when I’m not using it and read in bed most nights and charge it about every 4 or 5 days. I just plug it in at night when I go to bed and it’s ready in the morning.

zoosermom–you don’t need to have the wi-fi on to use the Fire as a reader or play apps, only if you are surfing the net.

Yes, I charge the Fire every day or day and a half. Maybe because the wifi is always on. or maybe CC eats power. My Kindle 2 held a charge for weeks.

The new HD Fire 8.9 with Wi-Fi is now $249 ($50 off) today only at Amazon. No 4G, but you can’t use that to download movies anyway. They make you use Wi-Fi for that.

I got a Nook HD for Chanukah from my daughter and I really love it. Looking forward to borrowing books from other Nook users in addition to browsing, etc. The browser is very nice, and has an especially useful setting to read just the text on a website, e.g., a newspaper article. $200 total includes the charger and no ads. And it has a memory card slot for extra storage.
