To my teacher who thought I was "city college material" cuz I was African

Well, you are in for a surpise. When the four students being to spread the news thru the school, you will realize that I sat in your class and made you happy.
I applied to the schools you wanted me to and made you happy.

Not it is my turn.

Your kids will fry my fries and cheese up my burgers.
They will work for me and will get nothing.
Their tax will go right into my pocket.
Because I am going to Yale. Off to Yale Mr. ****** and Mr. ***

I am off to make a life for myself.

Thank you for your words, they made me happy.
They motivated me to do my best.
They got me on CC, and made me meet the best people in the world.
They were in my pencil while I was taking the SAT
They were in my smile when I was doing community service.
They were in my application that was so pleasing.
They were in my transcript.
They were on my mind and made me wake up with a smile.
They were on my mind when the car almost hit me.

And they will be on my mind when your kids ask me for a job
Trust me, I know who your “kids” will be.
They shall have to sweat ginger ale if they want a raise.
They will have to walk on water if they need my help.
They will have to play soccer with land mines if they want a job.
They will have to have the cure for cancer in their veins for “spare change”
They will have to do what they have to do.

And they will do it.

I am off to live a good life.
:::Sorry guys, I needed to put this out there. Some of my teachers said Yale takes few URMs so I stand NO chance. They did not even want me to go to like Vanderbilt or something, but TO CITY COLLEGE!!?
S word
One of them wanted to give me a D. Sick man.
He and his kids will wipe the crap in my house.

Bwbulldog is getting out his frustrations. I would like to emphasize, however, that Yalies certainly DO NOT believe that they are inherently superior to others. I believe the op was opposing racism and jerk teachers…

Yeah.
I will never think I am above anyone at all.
They just made my life hell and I planned to win.
and I did.

I am girl though, lol. Its ok

I just wanted to be cool. Students loved me, but those teachers were just racist.
Wanted to give me a D. I will slap his face with my acceptance package.

((((((((being = begin)

Haha I automatically associated anger with men. Oops!!!

“I will slap his face with my acceptance package.”

i just lol’ed for the first time all day. school is exhausting. and congrats to all yale 2013’ers! i hope to be in your place next year :)

LOL
I think I would have done the same
Hope to see you guys next year!

Hey, bluewhitebulldog, can you get that acceptance package face-slap on film? That’s a new concept, lol.

“I will slap his face with my acceptance package.”

Lol, I can so hear you say that in an Igbo accent, bluewhitebulldog. Haha.

I knw right, I know, lol

My gosh thank you for your post…I truly mean that. I thought I was the only one with that kind of BS…Best of luck to you!

Am I the only one who thinks this is beyond weird?

“Am I the only one who thinks this is beyond weird?”

No, it’s sick.

How do you know he underestimated you “cuz” you were African (or African-American?).
Many people are underestimated, regardless of race or skin color.

Was this person actually admitted to Yale?

^hell yea. bwb is a fallout girl for yale. after passing out like eight times on the 31st, she got in and will soon be head of her class.

Wow. OP made me LOL.

Ridiculous.

He actually said I stand no chance at Yale. Basically, he looked me in the eye and told me that City College has a lot of “African students like you; going to Yale would cost you money. The kids there are so smart.”

Dumb knuckles! He thought I was not smart. LOL. I think I will give him my scores tomorrow.
OH! He already heard them. My mates spread the word. Ouch, lol.

Prophet, I passed out once. lol. I was sent home after that.
Funny, but when I was awake, my first question was whether someone logged me off.

I do not care if my teacher thought what he thought. What ****ed me off is the fact that he wanted to give me D’s and C’s earlier in the year. I had to “apply” to these schools and not Yale.
That is the reason I did not tell anyone, even my family. I will move to have action against him.

Love you guys, and love CC.

The Blue-and-White Bulldog

You know a lot of people don’t realize this crap still happens today. Some of the posters just don’t get it because they have not had that experience. It is all about persevering.

^agreed. Some genuinely do not know.
Others just do not care.

Wow, so sorry you were treated this way. You know, teachers are supposed to take psychology courses in college and should be somewhat skilled in encouraging and motivating students. Squashing a kid’s aspirations is always wrong. If the dreams truly are unrealistic, then the child should be guided toward how to either make them possible or how to choose a more practical alternative. But it sounds like this guy made a wrong judgment based only on prejudice–not facts.

wow , bullwhitebulldog
i am inspired
thanks for posting your story
