Our son is currently attending a public High School. Has been accepted to a GT school that is a Nationally highly ranked test in only school. If he carries a low B/High C average there, or a High B, solid A average at the traditional High School…which looks better for his transcripts to college?

which - HS GPA is the best indicator for college success. High test scores and low GPA are often (mis?)interpreted as “bright slacker.”

Low B or high C is not good even at a highly ranked magnet. But what makes you think he’d get grades like that? If it’s a concern, I’d ask the magnet school what sort of college placements they get for the bottom half of the class, or the bottom quarter.

There are schools that look at class rank to decide which students to invite to compete for the “big” scholarships…they require the invitees to be in the top 5% of the class - it doesn’t matter if it’s the top 5% of a hard school or an easy school, the student just needs to be in the top 5%.
