So, my June 2011 scores are:
E 36
M 36
R 34
S 35
C 35 (35.25)
Essay 8, writing 32

I’m an upcoming junior, took it with TIP in 7th grade (25), June 2010 (32.5 = 33), and again this time.

Should I retake? I’m aiming for MIT/Caltech/Stanford (why not dream? :D). I would like as good of an application as possible, but is it worth taking four times to try to get perfect, even if I only take it once junior year? Is reporting the number of attempts necessary, and does the TIP thing count as an attempt? This was also my first time taking it with the essay and I was quite out of it for this one, I feel like my current essay score is low… not to mention the 35.25 rounding down just stings. :P

I think you should try again. Even if 4 isn’t desirable for number of times taken, I highly doubt the 7th grade one will count too harshly against you. Since this is also your first time with writing, you might be able to improve on that.

Speaking from personal experience, I took it the first time without writing and got a 35. I was incredibly peeved when I learned that some schools I plan to apply to require the writing section and had to retake. With that said, I got a 36 on the second attempt and don’t regret the decision at all (Of course hindsight is 20/20). So just know that there can certainly be a payoff, but also a downside (any score that is not a 36 is not beneficial).

I would argue that the seventh grade exam doesn’t count, so you’ve got, theoretically, one more attempt. If you go for it, make sure you get a 36.

On another note, are you the same dynamo729 from AOPS. Because the name is familiar.

Thanks for the input. I feel that I might be able to get perfect if I really study hard.

And yes, GreyWolf, I’ve got the same name on AoPS.
who are you on AoPS, if you don’t mind me asking?

Honestly, a 35 is mega-awesome. Taking it again may just be time better spent.

^^I don’t actually post on AoPS. Instead, I frequent the forums (enough to recognize certain usernames and individuals) and use alcumus with some nonsense account. I think I’ll make a serious account though now (username: GreyWolf, of course).

Colleges can’t see how many times you’ve taken the ACT, you know, the maximum is 12.

[ACT FAQ : Which scores are reported if I test more than once?](http://actstudent.org/faq/answers/morethanonce.html)

Lewl a 35 isn’t really that much different than a 36. But take it if you’ve got the money and time to spare.

@GreyWolf I’m surprised you recognize me, I haven’t posted with any regularity in years xD

Thanks for the advice, ppl.

I don’t know if this is redundant or not, but i need some guidance too.

So i took the June ACT and managed to get this breakdown:

Composite: 35
English: 34
Math: 36
Reading: 34
Science: 36
Writing: 12

Im a senior now, and I was wondering if you all thought i should take it once more, just to see if i can pull down that 36. Is it really worth it?

Im debating it because I hope to apply for some selective scholarships to go to my dream schools, and i know that every little bit counts, but at the same time, I have no idea whether or not i would have time to study for the ACT along with college essays, visits, school, sports, and all of that.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
