In my dreams.

The trouble with leggings is that you need exquisite legs to pull it off. Skinny legs look horrific and fat legs look awful. I can’t say that my legs are perfect. Count me out.

yup! hence my prior comment. :)

I love leggings; they allow me to wear a lot of fun little dresses that I would otherwise not be comfortable in. I do really need to try things on; while I am small I do not have the body of a Title IX model. I’m not crazy about the look of a long shirt with leggings, especially when it’s butt covering but shorter in the front.

I recommend that you put your new leggings on with a pair of ballet flats and then go try a bunch of stuff on at a place like Tj Maxx.

I own many pairs of Lululemon wunder unders, which are (kind of expensive) leggings. I mostly wear those to gym, but sometimes I run errands in them. I usually just wear a longish tank layered with weather-appropriate top - usually bought at Lululemon, so that colors coordinate. Sometimes I wear tunics.

I feel like if you are going to wear a dress, the best look would be like in post #8 (from BunsenBurner) and to me it’s a bit too casual of the look to go to work.

P.S. I forgot to mention, when I don’t work out in my wunder unders, I either wear ballet flats or casual boots with my wunder unders (depends on the weather).

Currently, I’m wearing my grey JJill leggings with a long linen mustard colored top from South Street Linens. I wear leggings with long shirts, tunics and sweater tops from Eileen Fisher (outlet store near me), JJill, SOST, Gudren Sjoden, Vince (via Marshalls). My only problem with leggings is they sometimes roll down. Shoes; I wear leggings with anything; sandals, flats, boots, sneakers.

MiamiDAP- is there anything you DO like? Besides donuts?

I also like the Lulu Wunderunders and I wear them layered with my Nuu-Muu running dresses and maybe a denim jacket or sweater over the dress.

I don’t agree that you need perfect legs to pull off leggings. With the right layering they barely show and are more like tights. Your thighs aren’t hanging out!

I agree. Also, some leggings are offering a compression, which makes your (mine for sure) legs look so much slimmer. Especially in black - which makes everyone (me for sure :)) look slimmer.

I only wear thick leggings and I buy them from where I would normally buy my dress pants. They tend to hold my butt and legs in more without sharing too much information. My rule of thumb is also have butt covered by a top, may it be a jacket, sweater or long shirt. I can’t stand looking at people’s butt through thin tights - no one has that good of a body.

I wore a pair of pants recently that I thought were just a pair stretchy skinny leg pants. D2 told me that I looked nice and I should wear leggings more often. I told her they weren’t leggings.

I usually wear leggings with a long tunic top or a short dress. I wouldn’t wear leggings alone as in the Eddie Bauer photo. IMO wearing leggings as in the photo requires that you have great legs.

Agree with MOWC and lerkin.

Hey believe me, I know what I’m talking about–never mind thighs–I don’t need my knees, calves, or ankles hanging out, either.

Edit: I mean, it’s easy to agree if those are not an issue. We are not all built the same, though.

There’s an easy solution for those that don’t like them. Don’t buy them. ;)

Sure, I’ve seen them not look great how some individuals have put them together in outfits, but I’ve also seen them worn, like MOWC said, more like tights, under, say, a dress, and look very nice on more than one body type.

I wear a plus size and never thought I could wear leggings. Nordstrom had them, so I tried them on with a longer tunic, which covered my problem area (middle), and I was suprised at great they looked. If you don’t like your calves, try them with a pair of boots. Mine are a thicker material, so would never be confused with tights. They are so comfortable.

Haven’t tried leggings yet (although I would like to) because of the fear my not so slim and short legs would only look more so! I may take the leap and try them with a short dress/tunic as I think they would be so comfortable!
On another note…I sure do miss having Von Maur in my area…great store!

And that is the point. To wear things that look GOOD with them (if you like!) instead of wearing them with a short tight top!!!

I’m no model but my body has changed a bit the last year- for the good - and dang it, all those miles running and exercising is going to be the plus in allowing me to nicely wear something cute and comfortable like this - something I really want to “be me”!!

My first thought was Athleta, my 2nd is Anthropologie.

BunsenBurner – for once, being short has its advantages! But I’d rather be a few inches taller.

alh – thanks for posting the flax link – I love that look!

oldfort – I think what you were wearing are called “jeggings”. A jeans/leggings hybrid.

When all of you mention wearing leggings with boots, if you’re on the short side, are ankle boots more leg-lengthening than ones that stop at the calf? Or if tights are black and so are boots, doesn’t matter?

I think if you are short and wear boots it is recommended that the boots have a little bit of a heel and not be perfectly flat. I break this rule a lot, since I wear cowboy boots and some of them don’t have much of a heel. If you wear ankle boots, they are definitely supposed to have about a 2 inch heel to lengthen your legs. The magazines seem to be liking the black leggings/black ankle boots with heel to lengthen legs. If I wear black leggings (which I sometimes do), I can’t sit down in my house or I will be wearing my cats!

I’m 5’1" and have very short legs. I wear both ankle boots and knee high. I always wear boots with a bit of a heel (2"-4") but I also wear my ballet flats with leggings. I only wear black leggings and black boots/shoes.
