To The Ladies: How Do You Wear Your Leggings?

In my quest to “be me” and not dress for others or to follow the crowd (cause the crowd where I work truly has NO style at all - not being mean, just truthful!!!) I bought these leggings today to help get me through the fall/winter clothes season:

[Full-Length Wide Waistband Leggings | Eddie Bauer](<a href=“Page Not Found”>Page Not Found)

I HATE winter clothes, don’t like dressing heavy and besides my Gap colored jeans and cords do not like wearing pants to work - no trousers, no wool, no polyester…no big bulky sweaters (usually 3/4 sleeve only), no blouses - more of an easy top and cardigan kind of girl. DO love dresses and don’t mind skirts.

I did not post in the Dressing Young thread for a couple of reasons I won’t explain.

Anyway, while I won’t wear these leggings to work as show in the photos - with a longish shirt alone, I DO want to wear with casual, comfortable dresses. Something not too fitted, something kind of sporty but ok for business casual office (no jeans). But, where to find them???

So, I know there are other ladies out there who subscribe to leggings-wearing already and others who want to! So please share how you like to do leggings, where you find your coordinating pieces, etc. For my purposes, budget is a factor (others may not have a budget - but if I see only $100 + dresses, I will only be dreaming…)

Will wear with flats and also with boots if appropriate. Please feel free to post any links to examples!

Got anything/advice to offer???

Great question Abasket! One I want to know the answer to also and something I struggle with. I feel from what you described that we have similar style ideas.

I think leggings are great and I really want to figure out how to wear them. I think dresses with leggings look great on other people. However I am smurf size and I think it looks off on me.

So no suggestions lol but another who wants to know!

I actually do not own any leggings but I bought this dress and the sales girl said “you can dress it up or down” and I think she meant leggings…but in this pic, I think the model is wearing opaque tights.

I tried on something like that this weekend at Nordstrom Rack (it was much cheaper!) - though the sizing was a little off for me (one too small, next size too large) I did think it would be cute with a colored cardigan and tights/leggings.

I am also smurf sized but I do have a few leggings and tunic outfits that I’ve bought from Lands End and Coldwater Creek. I like this one with the longer back and the button front. [Women’s Long Sleeve Slub Yarn Dye Drop Shoulder Tunic from Lands’ End](<a href=“Lands' End | Swimwear, Outerwear, Casual Clothing and more”>http://www.landsend.com/products/womens-long-sleeve-slub-yarn-dye-drop-shoulder-tunic/id_245289) Here’s one from Coldwater creek [Coldwater Creek](http://www.coldwatercreek.com/product-detail/66710/73661/two-pocket-no-iron-perfect-tunic.aspx?colorid=K82&refLink=search.aspx)

I only started wearing leggings last year but boy, are they comfy! I may indeed look short, but truly there’s no way to hide that and I don’t really care. If I’m comfortable and smiling, that’s a good look in my book.

flax makes a lot of dresses I think work nicely with leggings and fit your budget, especially on sale.

I wear leggings for warmth under ankle length dresses with ankle boots and socks. In urban centers here and overseas, I see women with black leggings under dresses with naked feet and flats or heels. It is a good look imho.

if you like that eileen fisher/leggings look, you can probably copy it with a much less expensive version of the same dress

On the outside of my underwear.

What a timely thread! I was looking all over the world for things to wear with my leggings! Hate long shirts (they wrinkle and most look dowdy), love sweaters (but it is too early for them), like tees (but it is too cold for them and they look kind of too informal).

In the end, I found a possible source of tops: mini-dresses, like the one below (please note - all Outnet models are 5’10", so things will look different if you are shorter).

Classof2015, kudos to you for getting the dress! I tried it on last week but chickened out. I think for me (5’6") it is too long to be worn as a top with leggings, but too short to be worn as a dress.

I think Title 9 and Athleta have nice, casual dresses that work great with leggings. Also, REI and other outdoor retailers usually have Horny Toad.
I wear either boots or flats with leggings. Patagonia usually has some good casual dresses, too.

For more formal looks, DVF collections are a good source of mini dresses, like this one:

Title Nine has some cute dresses to go with leggings. As a matter of fact, I’m currently mulling over returning to the store for one (told myself if I wanted it bad enough I’d come back).

Just saw MOWC’s post. Yummy stuff! I was in there yesterday, and Lululemon… (which also fell in the “if I want it bad enough” category  )

I wear long tops with my leggings. Here is an example of one:

https://www.vonmaur.com/Product.aspx?ID=165504&Sale=n&pg=1</a></p>

I have never heard of Title Nine! Will have to look online.

Liking some of these ideas and also like that some of you are looking for the same ideas!! :)

I like that Von Maur top.

I wear leggings with long tunic tops or oversized sweatshirts.

I guess when I receive the leggings and see the fit that will help me to picture other pieces with them. I bought both colors, black and charcoal - good price plus I had a $15 coupon. Will let you know how they are .

I am so old that I wore leggings (called ski pants when I was a kid, with the strap under the foot) in elementary school. When I was a young mother I wore leggings with oversized shirts or long shirt.

Now, for me, I harken to the old saying, “If you wore it once…don’t do it a second time around” There are pictures of me in leggings…not so good. I’ll pass this time out.

I saw this skirt with leggings today in a athleta catalog I received yesterday that I really liked [Privacy Policy | Athleta](Athleta) I’m wondering how these skirts would look with leggings?

Wanted to put a plug for a couple of companies in my neck of the woods. The first is Haystacks [Clothes. Made in northern Michigan I don’t know if the website really shows these clothes but I have one of these skirts and they are amazingly comfortable and flattering. I was really surprised when a group of women tried them on and they looked good on all of us. They look cute in the winter with tights and flats or boots. Anyways promoting locally made clothing. If you like them, sign up for emails and they send out 30% off occasionally.

The other local company is Baabaazuzu. Also made locally and from re-purposed sweaters, they make a skirt that I thought was really cute and I thought would look good with leggings Skirt”>http://www.baabaazuzu.com/coll-wool/skirt]Skirt ? Baabaazuzu](http://www.haystacks.net)

Lots of great ideas. I liked the top from Von Maur.

I buy my leggings at boutiques and they usually have a very good selection of long-ish tops and sweaters to wear with them. Not inexpensive though.

I wear them with flats, ankle boots and tall boots. I love wearing leggings.

I do not liek leggings and I do not have a single pair. I do not like at all how they look on others. I am against leggings, except for the 3 y o’s, well, maybe thru the age of 6.
