To those of you who were admitted: did you take SAT subject tests?

I see that they are “recommended.” My S did well on his first SAT and will be taking it again, but doesn’t want to do the subject tests if he doesn’t have to.

I didn’t take them, and got 7,000 a year plus direct admit to kelley

33 ACT, top 25% of very competitive high school

I took em, did so-so. 610 US History, 700 Math IC, 760 Math II. 1430 regular SAT (670M + 760V), so don’t know if it was necessary.

Son did not take the SAT or any subject tests. Just the ACT. He also was direct admit to Kelley and received the $7K faculty award.

My son took them, but in hindsight it was unnecessary for him to have done so. Well, for Indiana University, anyway.

He took SAT US History (560), and SAT Math IIC (680). His scores on the SAT I were (560CR/700M/590W).

He was not a direct admit to Kelley (missed cutoff by 10 SAT points), but is doing fine in classes and will apply for admittance soon.

Adcom:
“If you’re an applicant, where are your SAT II’s?”

Me:

“SAT II’s?
We ain’t got no SAT II’s.
We don’t need no SAT II’s.
I don’t have to show you any stinking SAT II’s.”

I took SAT 2’s because they were required for some other schools that I was applying to. My best scores were 750 on Math 2, and 690 on Literature. My normal SAT was 700r/800m/700w. I was admitted to the Hutton Honors College and offered 7000 a year. In my opinion, I wouldn’t bother taking SAT 2’s unless they are required for another application. If you did very well on the SAT or ACT, that should be enough- unless there is some subject that your son is very good at, where you know he could get an outstanding score on that SAT 2, and therefore greatly strengthen his application.

He is registered to take the US History and Literature SAT IIs next month. He will just be finishing up AP US History - and history is a big interest of his - so that test should be no problem. I’ve heard mixed things about the Literature exam, although it is one of his best subjects as well. One other school he’s looking at recommends them, but none of them require them.

I took them, but I don’t think IUB ever got my subject scores. I got the 7k a year anyway.
