Again, this comes down to another “how important are SAT scores” thread, but with a different take. I have a friend who has similar stats to mine, all with the exception of SAT I scores. He has a 2140 overall (690 CR, 700, 750 W), whereas I have a 2320 (770 CR, 790 M, 760 W). Cutting to the chase, I am asking how much my application to top schools will differ from his (if for this scenario we say we have the same GPA, ECs, etc). Now, to be clear, I am not in any way asking if my scores will get me into a college, because I am not that naive or that ignorant. I am simply asking how much these scores (new scores over a score >2200 from a while ago) will help my app???

A lot more than people want to believe.

A 180 points is a significant difference, especially in the upper score bracket. I’m sure that will help your application a lot.

How could it NOT help your application???
Lots of us dream of scores like yours! Like Gryffon ^ said, in those upper levels that difference will have a huge effect. Congratulations!

Alright thanks guys! Anyone else?

well of course with no doubt thats a great score, but for Ivies, thats the average amount, so have some other good stuff

Personally speaking, once you reach a certain level of SAT, it no longer becomes relevant. Case in point, my friend and I had scores similar to the two you put, me with a 2310 and him with a 2150. We applied to number of similar/same schools, and here are a couple of the results:

MIT - I was rejected, he was waitlisted
Duke/Rice - He was waitlisted at Duke, and I got into Rice.

Take that with a grain of salt, our applications on the whole were extremely different.
