So I kind of have a dilemma. I received no aid WHATSOEVER from the lovely UCSB Financial Aid Office. I went to orientation and took on the max courseload, which is roughly 14 units. My question is whether or not it would be advisable to try and look for a job around the UCSB area. Any help would be appreciated :)

NO -not the first semester . Wait till you see what sort of free time you have .

I guess this makes sense. No free time; no work.

I’m going to start LOOKING first quarter that way when second quarter rolls around I’ll probably have a job lined up. Everyone I talked to says don’t get a job first quarter, but i don’t want to be stuck without a job second quarter too.

Yeah, I’m thinking that too. But you can’t really tell them “Oh, hold my job until I finish my first quarter of school.”
Hahaha

Well kinda. When you apply they have you put an availability date. The earlier you put in your application, the higher you are on the list. Plus I’ll probably try to get a job as an ER tech so that might take a while to do all the verification and such.

Oh. I wasn’t aware of that ![]()
That’s pretty awesome. ER Tech. Haha.

haha it basically means that i get to push patients around in a hospital… hooray.

Misleading job, hahaha. So I’m looking at my books and I was wondering if it really matters if I get an older edition of the textbook, since they’re much cheaper and have pretty much the same information.

I mean, why get the 6th edition for $40 on Amazon when the 5th edition is $5 with shipping included?

oh crap books. I haven’t even thought about it. Basically the only difference there ever is between editions is font. I don’t really see how one edition off could make that much of a difference…

It’s true for both my Math 3B textbook and my Chem 1A textbook. If you go one edition back, it’s around a $30 difference.

haha i havent thought about buying anything yet. books, bedding, nothing. it seems really far away, but i guess it’s only 2 months…

Yeah, it’s closer than you think. 2 months. 60 days. :p

Hey I started looking at books too but on the bookstore website it says a lot of them are custom for UCSB like the Chem 1A and Math 3B! I didn’t find the custom ones on Amazon!
Do you think we need it?

@Confused: All of the Chem 1AL stuff can’t be bought online. I did find Math 3B for a reasonable price though, on Amazon (~$20). It’s the 6th edition Steward Single Variable Calculus Early Transcendental textbook.

Do you think it matters that they don’t have the same ISBN number?

It doesn’t matter. The ISBN is just so you can find the name, author, and edition of the book. From there on, it’s up to you.

really? ok awesome! thanks so much! :)

Yeah haha.
How is your schedule?

Chem 1A w Feldwinn
Chem Lab
Math 3B
Anth 2

You??
