Toaster Ovens

Looking for some recommendations. I want one which is all stainless steel. I don’t care if doesn’t have a convection oven as I never used it on my old one.

Breville Smart ovens have consistently received top ratings from Cooks Illustrated. I’ve used the model with the convection capability and was very impressed but I think it comes in 3 different sizes with the smaller ones being conventional rather than convection.

Thx for the recommendation. I’ve been looking at the smallest Breville. I would love to just get a regular toaster but I’ve been using the TO a lot since we’ve become empty nesters. It just seems silly to heat up my regular oven for two baked potatoes, slices of pizza, etc.

Really love the high end “toaster” ovens from Oster. Mine is a convection oven that has worked great for several years. And the price was quite reasonable.

I bought the Breville without the convection oven. $155 with 20% off coupon at BB&B. Now I just have to figure out how to use it. The stainless on the less expensive brands don’t seem as nice and the sides aren’t SS on less expensive ovens. My kitchen opens into my family room so I like all my small appliances be SS.

I was looking at the top rated convection Breville and the runner up top of the line convection Cuisinart and ended up with the Cuisinart. As I recall, the Breville took up more counter space side to side and Cuisinart is a little deeper. Counter space won. Both will fit similar amounts of food and both get good reviews.

I actually like the convection feature very much and would no longer consider doing without it. I think it really does makes a big difference in the evenness of cooking, moistness of food and speed of cooking. It couldn’t be any simpler to use - just subtract temperature or time from instructions.

I just never used it on the other TO and it wasn’t worth an $80 extra to me. My reg. oven has convection and I don’t use that either.

I have plenty of counter space where the TO goes in my kitchen, so size wasn’t an issue. I don’t do much cooking in the TO - just stuff like baked potatoes, reheating pizza. I do make my roast potatoes in it and as long as it fits the dish I make them in it’s all good.

Counter space was an issue so I purchased my D a Panasonic XPress. Consumer Reports gave it great reviews and she has been very happy with it.

Roshke, thanks for the link.

I hate the multi-function controls on our newish toaster oven. To do anything, including make toast, you need to mess with the knobs and tiny text.

Love the Breville!

Yikes- I looked a few years ago when the handle to a now 30 year old one was coming off (rescrewed and added glue). I am willing to pay $30-$40 or so. But will keep using this one- wouldn’t want to cook more than 1-2 portions in one. Do have a nice $25 or so toaster with a bagel, reheat and frozen feature (we keep bread in the freezer). Decades ago I tried to get a more expensive toaster but research and trying one or two more expensive ones proved the cheap ones do as good, if not better, job. We use our microwave toaster oven for frozen pies- pizza and dessert ones come out perfectly. But- I’m either cheap or frugal…

Have a DeLonghi from Costco that works well for us. We sometimes even make roasted veggies or meat in it. My sis claimed it was top of the line when she listed it on her bridal registry decades back. We’ve had it for a very long time and no complaints.

This thread came at a perfect time for me. I tried to cook a bagel this morning, and my TO was dead. My son got up and called me to ask why our TO wasn’t working. I had just purchased a Cuisinart about 18 months a go, after my very old one died. I went with the big Breville with convection. Even though the BB&B coupon specifically excludes Breville, they let me use it in the store (but they wouldn’t let me use it on-line). I am hoping we will use it often enough with kids gone to make it worth it. My son already used it to cook pizza, and it was fiine.
