Today`s QOTD :The Hardest possible SC question

Because he felt intimidated in his new position, he was ------- divulging his frank opinions of company proposals.

scurrilous about

candid in

chary of

fervid about

precipitate in

Difficult words in the sentance (intimidate and divulge) and really difficult answer choices.
There is no way to answer this if you dont know the meaning of the words.

well you should be able to know most of the words if you are seriously taking SAT though… n ooffense, because I think most of them are in WordSmart…

I answered it correctly.Just finished the Barron`s 3500 list

For those of us who didn’t see the QOTD, what’s the correct answer? I think I know, but I’d like to confirm.

Edit: Never mind; I went on the site and found the answer. Yippee, I was right!!

Narrowed it down between scurrilous and chary and took a lucky guess.

Chary reminded me of wary, so I picked that.

I’m interested in knowing just how many times “chary” appears in recent academic and news publications.

FFS.

I did what jamesford and chronic future did. Not sure if there’s any relation to wary but I got it right.

“Chary reminded me of wary, so I picked that.”

hahah, same!

I had an idea what chary was, but this is how I did it:

scurrilous - sort of like scurry, and he’s clearly not hurrying to talk about himself.
candid - blunt, uncensored, which he’s the opposite of
chary -
fervid - fervid is eager, but if you didn’t know, you could think of a fever where you’re sort of rushing to get better lol
precipitate - “rain” haha, sort of like open up, which he isn’t doing

B, D, and E were clearly wrong, I was pretty sure A was wrong, and I had no idea what C was, so I put that.

hahaha i got it right! deff not the most difficult SC qn

So has anyone here ever used the word chary before? None of the others are especially arcane, but chary…

I just eliminated the ones that I knew didn’t make sense. This question’s easy peasy.

How i got it right ?
I knew i had to pick a word meaning ‘‘afraid ,wary or sth like that’’ and while thinking i realized when i had been reviewing the Barron`s 3500 list there were a lot of words with first letter ‘‘c’’ that definitely meant cautious, circumspect, careful.Even these 3 examples start with ‘‘c’’ ;] Then i remembered what ‘‘chary’’ means and got it
