Today's (10/21) Google Doodle

Ok, no cheating. Go to google.com and look at the google doodle for today. You can scroll over the doodle to see the celebration theme, but do not click on it.

www.google.com

Any idea who this person is? I had no clue…!

I love the google doodles but sometimes they seem very random to me! If you are like me and have no clue who is being honored, click on the doodle and you will be able to see who this person is/was.

Keeping score. Did you know the person right off the bat???

No, I didn’t.

Yes, I did - was a major fan of this person’s employer for many years (not so much any more).

Not a clue!

No idea whatsoever.

I knew her work but not her name.

Don’t know her, but the style of art looks familiar.

wow. 100?

Everyone here has seen her work, I’m sure!

^Born 100 years ago. She died in 1978.

ok, that makes sense!

nope never heard of her- but looks Scandinavian.

I didn’t know the person but I immediately thought of one of her most iconic creations when I saw the doodle.

Ok, so I’m not just out of the loop here in not knowing!

Cute doodle, but was a “huh?” moment for me!

So glad you posted! I had a strong hunch and then looked her up and was right.

Missed this yesterday- anyone care to share who it was ?

Mary Blair (I’d never heard of her either…)

One of her many Disney creations is an enormous mosaic in the lobby of the Contemporary Resort at WDW which includes a five-legged goat. We stayed there when the kids were young and they found the mosaic fascinating (especially the goat). I became interested in her other work, especially her illustrations for ads of the 1950s and 60s.

Not really a “Small World” fan today but I thought it was cool at one time and we can’t blame her for the theme song. :)

Thanks for links Patsmom- here is a link from that page, and the bottom video is Disney’s tribute to her, along with footage from her time there. Interesting!
