Today’s mail looks like, 1 acceptance, 1 waitlist, 1 denial.

This based on my experience: 1 large envelope (doesn’t say “congratulations” on the envelope, but it can’t be another brochure can it?), 1 small envelope, but it’s a little thick. This means more than a simple “unable to offer you a spot” 1 page letter. Probably includes a reply envelope and/or card for waitlist. 1 skinny window envelope. No doubt about this one - I held it up to the light and read the bad news. Only 1 more to hear from, and this one is a reach for my S, looking more like a super reach every day.

I hope the big envelope is from a college S likes. I recall doing mybest to not open mail, but to try to figure out the news. I also recall coming home from work to check the mailbox. You are being patient. congrats

Thank goodness for early action! S was 3 for 3 with EA, but more importantly, 2 of them remain his top 2 choices. It is always nice to have MORE choices, and never nice to be denied, but if anything a few rejections/waitlists from schools that he is no longer interested in anyway will only make his final decision easier.

Good to know he’s sitting in the catbird seat. Finding out early must have saved the both of your months of worry. (Probably you more than him, if I know kids and parents).

NJ, if you have to get a rejection letter, it might as well be on the day you also get an acceptance letter.

Good luck on the last school!

BTW, I swore I wouldn’t ‘peek’ when D’s letters started coming in last year, and let HER tell us the good/bad news. Unfortunately, her #1 choice school sent their letter with a giant red ‘Congratulations’ message on the front, and I happened to pick up the mail, and couldn’t help being triumphant & congratulatory as I handed her the envelope… she didn’t mind, tho ;)

I’ve mostly been good about the mail. Usually, I’ve been “tipped off” by keeping a vigilant eye here on CC. (That’s my excuse for spending so much time on here!!) I’ve text messaged D, tracked her down when she didn’t answer her phone, and gone crazy waiting for her to get home, tho… :)

I text messaged DD while she was out to dinner about getting an acceptace via email a few fridays ago (yeah, I admit it. I checked her email that night…for good reason, too!) She called me back, and her whole table was screaming in the background!

One EA called my daughter to tell her she was accepted, then they sent a letter. I opened one acceptance by mistake. After that I started holding all her mail up to the light to see if I could read anything. That is a problem with some EA’s …they come is small envelopes. But the big envelopes, especially when they say “Congratulations,” on the front sure do get the big smiles.

One of D’s acceptances said something like, “This is your official Blank University Admissions package” on the outside. It made me wonder if most of their students were too dumb to figure it out.
