A 2-year-old Mississippi child has apparently been cured of HIV/AIDS by aggressive, high-dose antiviral therapy initiated immediately after birth.

The child was born to an HIV-positive mother and put on antivirals at birth, but apparently her mother went off the map, medically, for months… doctors tracked the child down through child protective services, and found that despite being off the antiviral drugs for a lengthy period of time, the child had no detectable viral load - and remains healthy today with no viral activity or drug therapy.

Researchers theorize that the high-dose regimen begun immediately after birth prevented the HIV virus from gaining a foothold in the body, and are now pursuing the implications of this finding.
