Hi everyone, I am currently a 9th grader I have been living in the USA since around September 2015 and I have been going to public school since 1st grade. I am not a us citizen or a permanent resident yet. My parents have applied for a green card but we don’t know if it will come before the time I go to college (hopefully gets approved before I turn 21) so I was wondering if I have to take the TOEFLS to show my proficiency in English because I will likely be considered an international student or will I be not required to take it because I have done nearly all my schooling in the States. Whenever I search online this is popping up which doesn’t answer my question, “I’m an international student but I attended a school in the U.S. Do I need to take the TOEFL/IELTS?
Exceptions to the English Standardized exams are available for: Applicants who have received or will receive a degree from an accredited university in the United States. You must upload a copy of your transcript from that institution within the online admissions application. If you are admitted, the official transcript must be received, or the TOEFL/IELTS exam scores will be required to enroll.” This is from Georgia Tech and the exact same thing has been stated for UC Davis.
Thank you
The answer is it will vary by university. But for the most part, if all your schooling has been done in the US, you’d be exempt

Agree with @skieurope.
For some colleges, if you have attended a a high school for 4 years and have taken 4 years of English (regular and advanced), with passing grades, then you would be exempt.
