Toilet paper consumption

@dragonmom Was it this one? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/235233-bidets-p1.html

I’m tracking toilet paper because when this first began I assured DH we had plenty as we had recently gotten a batch from Costco. And then I started second guessing myself. We’re good for more than two months. I trust that things will be less weird by then.

@abasket I prefer the Scott tissue as well.

Well, we’re an Auburn family so on a good year you can triple that for our family… War Eagle!

@anomander - in my community some of the local restaurants are delivering their meals w/ a side of TP.

Toilet paper made for home consumption is soft and comes in a certain diameter roll. With people doing all their business at home, this is in high demand.

There is currently very little demand for institutional grade toilet paper, which is made by different manufacturers in different factories, is less “bottom friendly”, and comes in a format that wouldn’t fit on the typical home TP dispenser.

We were early adapters to bidet toilet seats, so our TP usage is very low.

At https://www.grainger.com/category/cleaning-and-janitorial/paper-products-and-dispensers/toilet-paper-and-dispensers/toilet-paper there is apparently enough demand that many (but not all) models of standard toilet paper for the commercial market are on back order. Even some of the jumbo rolls and coreless rolls are on back order.

Funny, my H just complained the other day about the width of the tp roll in his bathroom. I checked my supply and the Kirkland tp is 4 1/2 inches wide (width of the cardboard roll), while a generic brand I bought at Target was only 4 inches. The 4 inch roll looks funny on the wall holder- too much of the silver holder shows on each end. Anyway, I’ve never calculated our usage but I generally buy a few of the giant Kirkland cases each year.

It’s an especially bad time (not that there’s ever a good time) to have IBS-D or Crohn’s. Stress can exacerbate their symptoms, causing TP consumption to increase thus causing more stress when there’s none to be found and so on.

I am surprised that TP shortage is still all over the country. Even though Costco doesn’t have it, but our local grocery stores have plenty, with no limit per person. It’s been like this for weeks now.

Still TP related topic with a different twist.

My son juggled with a roll of TP with his feet (like a soccer ball). He lasted a good minute.

I am thinking of posting a TP juggling contest for everyone in our town FB page . The winner will be the one with the longest time and will get $500. And for every video submitted, we will donate $20 to frontline workers.

I presented the idea to my son, and i want to post his video but I got a lot of push back. He doesn’t want this video posted, but thinks it’s a good idea.

Maybe people would enter if the prize was toilet paper. I’ve seen it in stores in our city for weeks now—several stores, market and CVS, plus Costco gets it on Thursdays.

I accidentally overbought TP online today (the size of the 1 package I ordered was all that was available at Staples when I ordered- with thanks to the tip from @deb922 ) and I had a coupon and needed some kitchen trash bags and sidewalk chalk for the neighborhood events to cheer up the kids, which brought my total up high enough to apply a $25 coupon that was expiring today. If the box of TP is 4 packs of 12 mega rolls (its a little unclear from the website), I am going to be awash in TP! If so, I will post a note in our neighborhood group to let those in need know.

Lol @ucbalumnus , I think I’m a little bit in love with you now for posting this thread.

And you too @bouders for that hilarious video. And you too @Nhatrang ! Only wish I could juggle.

I’m feeling very smug because I bought a big packet of 45 rolls a while back. Then I forgot I had that one, and in the first week of March I saw big packets (20 rolls) and couldn’t remember if I had enough at home, so I bought another big packet. We can wipe in style (septic safe) for quite some time.

D3 today shared her experience shopping for TP and only being able to find “stuff that’s worse than the Scott one ply” and “the luxury one that clogs our toilet.” Fortunately, she found something acceptable (but not the environmentally useful one she and her roomie wanted) at another store.

I bought a 24 roll Cottonell few weeks ago. As I am running low on my Charmin TP it was getting depressing to me to have to use the backup. It made my day yesterday to have 2 mega rolls of Charmin delivered by Freshdirect. Never thought I would ever get so excited over TP.

This thread reminds me of when my son went off to college and soon insisted on bringing his own TP. That 1 ply simply wasn’t working for him.

"Market penetration of bidets in the U.S. is in the single digits. Historically, that may be because Americans associated them with bordellos, sexuality and other matters that seemed vaguely scandalous and French. "

WSJ at its best. Sales of bidet seats are booming.
