"Thanks to a number of scholarships, graduating Tokay High senior William Chour will receive a full ride to Princeton University through 2015. At Wednesday’s annual Honors’ Night, he accepted the coveted Frank H. Buck Scholarship from a former recipient from Tokay High.

Chour, one of 11 recipients from 900 applicants, also received the prestigious $4,000 Horatio Alger Scholarship awarded to those who have overcome adversity in their young lives. There were only 37 recipients throughout California.

In between STAR examinations and finishing up his Senior Project, Chour recently answered a few questions via e-mail about leaving Lodi and heading off to college. . . . (continued)

Congratulations, William, and welcome to Princeton!

First senior ever to come to Princeton with external scholarships?!

Oh wait, most of them do. Hmm… what was the point of posting this?

randombetch

I think that PtonGrad posts local newspaper stories about high school seniors who will be attending Princeton. Obviously, many seniors do not have stories about them printed in the paper, although many/most of them are equally accomplished.

I for one appreciate the stories because it’s nice to get a taste of the accomplishments of next year’s class. In addition, I think that the students themselves appreciate the mention. If you’re not interested, you can just skip these threads–it’s pretty obvious from the titles what they’re going to be about.

Unlike randombetch, I always enjoy these posts of yours. That you even bother to share these stories suggests to prospective students that Princetonians form a close-knit community. You’re a great ambassador for your alma mater, so much so that the sense of community you imparted through your posts made it very difficult for me to turn down Princeton.

One other thing I forgot to mention: these articles also showcase the diversity, character, and talent of Princeton’s student body.
