Tokio Hotel!

Hi guys. You heard of the band Tokio Hotel? I’m a big, big fan, myself–and if you’ve caught wind that they’re only for high-pitched, a-few-screws-loose 13-year-old girls, you’d be very surprised: I admit to being female, but I’m 19 and will attend Stanford University. And guess what? They’re releasing an album in the US next week (May 6)! :D

They’re German. The album they’re releasing–[Scream](http://www.amazon.com/Scream-Tokio-Hotel/dp/B0016CP1RS/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1209507235&sr=8-1)–is their first English-language effort and has already sold over a million copies worldwide. It reached #6 in Canada, where it was released in late March, 2008. That’s pretty okay for a band that, when they recorded the album, consisted entirely of teenagers–half of them minors! (What many of us wouldn’t give to have an EC like that, eh? XD) The oldest one of them only turned legal to drink in the US less than a month ago, and two aren’t even legal in Canada yet. I don’t know about you, but I think that’s pretty neat.

As the album release date approaches, Tokio Hotel is getting more and more coverage in US media. Scream is one of Rolling Stone’s 65 Must-Hear Albums of Spring 2008; their video for “Ready, Set, Go!” has been played on TRL (if that’s an honor ^_^), Steven’s Untitled Rock Show, and elsewhere on US television; and they’ve had their bits of real estate in People, Blender, and the *New York Times/i, among other publications. They’re playing the Bamboozle music festival in New Jersey on May 3–too soon, in my paranoid opinion, after their singer’s illness and vocal cord surgery at the end of March–and on May 9 they’re scheduled to appear on Conan O’Brian. (The fans are praying that the band has been practicing their English. >.<)

Unfortunately, these four guys are too cool for the media to be unanimously supportive of them (^_^), so make your own opinion:

XD Or maybe I just think it’s hilarious because I’m already a fan… eh. :)

And no, that is not a wig. XP

@ that beginner’s guide:

That was some SERIOUSLY tight clothing. I wish I had the skill to wear those jeans.

Overall, I think their an amazing band. I listen to Ready Set Go! before every meet lol.

Bill’s my hero.

Like two of them would be hot if they were girls.

^ lol. I’ve heard dozens of people saying just that.

I don’t like them. I think they are somewhat similiar to Backstreet boys, although the music style is not the same.
And yes you are right, most people I know who like them are 13 or even younger.

In my opionion if Tokio Hotel really were that good, they needn’t have had their songs translated into English,…

Well if people like them, not my problem. Everyone should listen to the music he or she prefers.

AeroEngineer3141: You rock! You should join the [TH-US forums](http://tokiohotel.pop24.de/forum/us/index.php?sid=bb3be1c8d7eacda8aef36a0eafde404b). We always love to see more guys join up!

Godsend: Maybe you had no idea how unoriginal that was when you posted it. A lot, a LOT, of girls find them hot as guys, by the way. You might be surprised. ^_^

Silence: Ah! But, see, you’re in Germany! (>> …Duh. XP) The fanbase is a BIT different in America. Oo On the official US website there are some 13-year-olds–very few, perhaps none, younger than that (and some of the youngest are actually Europeans)–but most are at least 15. Quite a few in their 20’s, some in their 30’s, and a handful of guys, too. (I think the guys tend not to hang out on the message boards… they more tend to do things like post videos of themselves doing TH covers on YouTube. Oo No, but that’s very cool. ) Older teens, college students, people who work in the music industry, parents… I think it’s just an older and less flighty set of people who like them here. At least an older set of people who like them enough to join the fan club.

Maybe because they didn’t get famous here when they were, like, 15 years old themselves. You think? XP

And they recorded English versions of their songs so that people who couldn’t understand German would be able to get the meaning of the lyrics… so they could reach more people (and, perhaps, sell more albums… whatever, they’re not Gandhi)… since German isn’t that common as a second or first language, for that matter, and English is. I sincerely don’t see how it has anything to do with “If they really were that good.” The best music in the world isn’t going to make people suddenly understand German. But maybe that’s totally not what you meant. :)

I know that I’m standing pretty much alone with this opinion, but I think if a song is really good, the language doesn’t matter so much, it’s more the sound of the language and the instruments used for that song(there are some songs in icelandic for example that I really love, although I have no idea what they are about, I just love the sound of this language). however I experienced a lot of people not sharing my opinion in this and prefering music with lyrics written in a language they are able to understand, which, I think, is mostly english.

Your probably right, over there in the US the fans seem to be quite older than here. I’ve just never came across somebody listening to Tokio Hotel and at the same time being past 8th grade. No offence.
And I have to admit, I never heard their songs in English, I can only talk about the German ones. Maybe the English ones sound more mature or whatever so that they attract an older fanbase, I know the German ones don’t.

The only song I like is Monsoon. But I’ve seen their videos and I like how they interact with the crowd.

they suck! listen to gorgoroth!

I think Ready, Set, Go! is actually English dubbed.
I watched it for a German project in German language and it was the same footage except cut in parts but the singing matched with the faces more smoothly.

I like the German stuff much more. Ubers Ende der Welt and Schrei are way better in German.

:O You’re gunna make the OP angry.

I thought you were going to introduce me a hotel in Tokyo. I might go there soon.
