TB12 is a Tampa Bay Buc, Hard for those words to come out of my mouth. Grew up 5 minutes from what was Schaeffer Stadium (Now Gillette - albeit a new stadium). Live in Tampa for the past 27 yrs. You couldn’t POSSIBLY describe two different organizations in virtually every way. Discipline, self policing, determination, will to win, etc. I guess the word is CULTURE. Hard to believe TB12 will be happy in a world so foreign to his winning ways. Maybe that’s the point, he wants to change the culture in TB. Doesn’t have much time left to do that.
On the field they immediately get better. They will definitely sell more tix and get more prime time games. I see why they want it. Don’t see why TB wants it. Lots of warm weather teams so that’s not it. Personally I thought he’d join Gruden at the Raiders. Talk about two workaholics. The Bucs are definitely not that.
Wonder how my Brady hating Bucco fans are today. I bet actually pretty happy as Jameis Winston is a proven Box of Rocks that will never improve. Can’t imagine any team winning with him at the pro level. No discipline at all.
Good luck TB12. I will so miss those days but thanks for the memories, and here’s to creating some new ones. Haven’t watched a Bucs game in many years. I’ll probably tune in to check it out.
He will be great next year. With your receiver corps and te being elite he will light up that division. Just watch. Year two he will be a solid an and definately a leader.
I was going to write a financial blog o this move. The state income taxes savings for him and Giselle will equal 5.2mm per year roughly. Plus the cost of a home will be a fraction of Brookline. Much lower property taxes.
Lots of golf and closer to Brazil.
Lots of people looking for the fountain of youth and tb12 method and fitness centers will be headquartered there imho. No estate tax either.
Huge financial and lifestyle reasons. The savings alone pay for his private air now every year.
I also think may be a gm or run for senate. Lots of people will vote for him and he’s a bit more conservative than Massachusetts prefers.
It’s a really good move for him and tb. Why not go for the gold.
@privatebanker you’re killing me! We may have to take this offline as we could likely debate this for days. I don’t think the money matters much when you’re worth several hundred mil but what do I know.
The thing that kills me is, and you’d have to be around it to know (the media, the fans, the area, etc.) , this is not diehard sports fan area, not even close. I know that’ll tick off some of our Tampa CC followers but, trust me, it’s not. New England is a unique place. Sports and politics are basically religion. It’s just not like that here. The Bucs were #30 in attendance last yr. Some home games were blacked out. Give me a break.
TB just switched culture from “Do Your Job!” to “Let’s party on the pirate ship”. I’m telling you… Why do you think the Rays, a very good baseball team, were 2nd to last in attendance with approx 16k per game - and that was generous as most of the time it looks like 10k? Just not that important down here. I miss it so! Thank god for internet radio, the MLB and NFL package!
Hah. Ok. I was thinking of why. Obviously BB wants to move in a other direction. He’s let go some defensive gems like Danny Shelton and harmon. And flowers.
and Van Noy and Collins. That hurts. Going to be weird to see him in another uniform. I hear the relationship with BB was quite strained. They could have given him what he wanted but he didn’t want to stay…
maybe they should have taken duck whatever his name is instead. Lol.
Honestly. If you had a chance to watch every down last year, as I did, with no receivers and a bad line. He was really good. Lost center. Third string receivers. No quality back. Both fullbacks out for season. No tight end. Edelman seriously hurt last four games with a chest injury.
They did win their division and we’re 8 and 0 at one point.
He was clearly unhappy this year. I think he wanted them to load up for his final run at one more title and that wasn’t the long range plan
Raiders was not a serious option. It makes no sense for a rebuilding team to bring in an expensive player for 2 years. Better for a team that just needs a QB to get over the hump to win some playoff games. Raiders have holes on every position on defense and are still a couple of years away from being able to contend. Even if Gruden got starry-eyed over coaching the GOAT, Maycock would never pay that kinda money for a player in the twilight of his career. (he’s like Bellicheat in that way.)
The only other real option was Chargers who need something big to put butts in the seats of a new stadium. (They drew horribly in Carson and the visiting team typically had more fans than Chargers fans.) TB coulda got involved with local tv/movie productions if he was so inclined.
There was a really good podcast yesterday about Tom’s reasons to leave on ESPN daily. I thought Seth Wickersham has some great reporting on this subject.
Agree with @privatebanker completely lol! And I think it’s going to be a good boost for the Bucs attendance. I hope it’s more Payton in Denver than Montana in KC.
Something to talk about instead of the pandemic. God love the NFL.
It does. My husband has work interaction with someone in that category - he spends HOURS making sure he is getting every single bit of value out of an employee program that gives discounts, etc. He doesn’t need it at all. Saving 5.2M in taxes would be worth it.
At the end of the day, I think there was a rift between TB and BB that started a few yrs back when BB wouldn’t play Malcom Butler, their best DBack, in the Super Bowl against the Eagles. Pats threw up 33 points, TB threw for over 500 yards (both records for a losing SB team) and they still lost. All they needed were one or two stops on third down ALL GAME. Just one or two stops. Butler could easily have made that happen and the GOAT would be 7-2 instead of 6-3. BB has never really explained why he refused to play Butler.
I think TB just has had enough of the complete control of BB (which is a big reason why they are successful IMHO). In Tampa, he’ll have a lot more say in what happens on the field and probably off the field. Maybe he wants to influence the team as more of a player / coach type or just have looser reigns at 43.
As a long beleaguered Detroit Lions fan (Tom Brady fan from Michigan, hey you have to root for someone in January) free agency and the draft are the best part of our season!
