Tons Of Questions

I had alot of questions to ask of you guys.

First is about entering boarding school as a sophomore. Are there any disadvantages? Is it harder to keep up and finish requirements. Also when it come to apply to college do you ask for your transcript from your old high school for the courses you completed as well?

Second will it be easier for me to get in this year because I am applying as a sophomore? I ask this because I need full financial aid and this way I only need the school to pay for 3 years instead of 4. If anyone could clarify that, it would be helpful.

Lastly I would like to ask how I can cancel an interview. I set up an interview for the day after thanksgiving break at a school (the day all the faculty gets back) and I decided that school is not right for me anymore, how should I go about canceling the interview when nobody will be there until the actual day of the interview.

To answer your first question do not worry about coming in as a soph. I can only speak form an Exeter perspective but students who tend to come in lower/upper year seem to very successful and requirements are easy to accomplish. and yes colleges see your old transcripts as well.

Your second question it depends on what school you apply too. Lower year is similar in acceptance rate to preps at exeter from my understanding.

Your third question just call the school and explain the situation.

Don’t worry about coming in as a sophomore! I was a new sophomore and while the transition wasn’t necessarily as smooth as if I came in freshman year, it wasn’t bad at all. You wont be the only new student, remember that. Whether or not it will be easier depends on the school. There will certainly be less applying sophomores then freshman, but also there will be less spaces for said sophomores. I wouldn’t worry about that though, but if you’re really interested it’s a good question to ask your interviewer :)

As to your question about cancelling your interview, I agree with the post above me. Just call and explain, even if they don’t get it the day of they can see that you called beforehand and they will most likely get it before the planned interview time.
