<p>By the end of my senior year, I would have finished calc 1,2,&3, AP bio, AP chem, and AP lit. Assuming I get a five on all the AP tests can I take the MCAT in my second year of my college? Also, I plan to major astrophysics. What is the possibility of finishing my bachelor degree and the premed requirements in three years?</p>
<p>Although it is never too early to be thinking about the MCAT, it is not something that should be rushed into. If you believe that you can get your desired result on your first try, go for it. BUT, if you are just blowing off your first try at it, than DONT. Med Schools take the # of times you took the MCAT into consideration.</p>
<p>Several things to keep in mind–</p>
<p>First, not all medical schools accept AP credits for pre-med prerequisites. You will need to check with each school (either on their website or by emailing the director of admissions) you’re interested in to see what their policy on AP credits is. Many schools will only accept AP credit if you take higher level courses in the same subject area. Some schools will not accept AP credits at all.</p>
<p>Second, physics (esp astro) is a field that eats its young. Seriously. It’s difficult and extremely competitive. (At D1’s big state school, there are about 200-250 physics majors as freshman. The school graduates about 8-20 physics majors in a typical year. D1 was one of 12 physics degrees awarded her year. Only 7 of those were BS degrees. Her field: high energy. She’s applying to med school this cycle.) You’re on the right track with having all the math under your belt, but you are just starting out in math with Calc 3. You’ll need alot more math to do well upper level physics classes. </p>
<p>Third, do not underestimate how much time it takes to study for the MCAT. Studying for the MCAT and taking a full courseload of math and physics (even in summer school) may not be an effective course of action. (And I don’t see how you can finish all your required coursework for a physics major in 3 years without taking to summer classes.)</p>
<p>So… can you take the MCAT after 2 years? Sure. Will you do well? Impossible to tell. Can you finish as astrophysics UG degree and your med school prereqs in 3 years? Not very likely.</p>
