Too Good To Go…..who has tried it?

The other day we noticed GF tortillas at Costco. Made a mental note to consider them when son and his GF wife visits. Or when my GF sister visits (but fewer options for using them, since she is also dairy free).

Boo , article in New Yorker on excess food apps didn’t link. I’ll keep trying.

It’s called:

Spoiler Alert: Leftovers for Dinner

I’ve been following a group in Facebook, mostly in the UK I believe, I’ve seen some great sushi hauls.

Still no cities near me with this service, but I saw a tip today worth mentioning - especially in summer one of the prime seasons of travel…

If you’re visiting a big city where there ARE participating vendors, try them out while on vacation!

Thanks to this reminder, I checked my local options (last time I looked at the app, locally only donut shops had offers). Happy to see some more places using it now. Noticed our Whole Foods offers prepared items ($30 worth for $9.99)… might be a fun way to gamble.

I’d give that a shot if you’re not a picky eater!

Today’s deals were gone by the time I checked the app, but now I know to keep watch. Hubby is a somewhat picky eater, but I’m game to try just about anything.

I know my Publix donates all the day old bread to our local food pantry. The pantry driver picks it up every morning the next day. It’s perfectly fine bread. I believe they pick up other close to expiration items as well in produce, etc. It helps Publix make room for the replacement items as well - mutually beneficial.

I volunteer at a bimonthly drive-thru food pantry that has tons of bread (and diary and meat and veggies and more) that grocery stores send to the local community food share organization. It’s heartwarming to see the food go to good use.

Same here- the place I volunteer has a whole team of volunteers who pick up from Whole Foods, TJ’s, Safeway, etc. and some vendors at the Farmer’s Market down the street also donate. Fresh food is a wonderful thing to not waste.

I just got an email that says Whole Foods stores are partnering with Too Good to Go. There are 450 stores participating now, with more expected to join. Unfortunately, not in my area yet.

Just checked the app - which I haven’t for a while - WholeFoods was offering prepared foods for $9.99 - I suppose if you’re not ultra picky that’s a good deal. I had stopped looking as it was always donuts.

There is a Whole Foods about 8 miles from me…not all that convenient…but I might give it a try….its the only place around here that does this. Ours had a $6.99 option and a $9.99 option…both sold out today.

Interesting. In NYC Trader Joe’s gives expiring food to agencies that feed homeless people either by providing soup kitchens or food distribution to individuals and famiklies.

I’ll be curious what you get at WF for those prices. If you hear, let us know!

Not only do we not have Too Good here, the Whole Foods we had for 2 years closed!

I hadn’t been on for a while; just got this pop up when I opened the app:

Then I searched Whole Foods but apparently area stores are not (yet?) participating.

I got this one when Whole Foods first appeared on Too Good to Go in my area, about a month or so ago. I think there were two types, bakery or prepared foods. I purchased the prepared foods one, and it was a burrito, two packages of falafel, and a fair sized container of shredded cheese. I guess that was okay for $9.99.

Not sure why I decided to try it - I don’t like Whole Foods, because I don’t like the lack of recognizable brands and the expensive health foods. We eat fairly healthy foods, but we don’t seek out stores focused on such foods.

I also tried a Whole Foods offer. It was $9.99 and supposedly worth $30. It was prepared food - a ham and brie sandwich with lettuce and some kind of fruit chutney, a vegan BLT and veggie lo mein. As I recall the sandwiches were about $11-12 each and the lo mein was unpriced. I bought it though I am not a huge fan of prepared food but thought it would be fun. I’d probably do it again.

The other day when I looked I noticed there were 2 offers - one for bakery goods and one for prepared food. I don’t recall the pricing.

The TJ near my mother’s senior living community donates flowers to them that are too old to sell.
