Too Hard of A Courseload???

I’m gonna take physics 18, chem 100, bio 1, and soc 1 at uc merced this fall. The soc 1 course was more of a unit booster since I would only be taking 13 units without it and I suppose it would not look good to medical schools if I took that few units regardless of what they are. I am now thinking of dropping soc 1 and taking all the science courses which I am positive I can handle, plus join some sort of academic club/org. Any thoughts?

Keep in mind that’s three lab courses you have there, so it’ll be a huge time commitment.

As for medical schools, they look at GPA more than how hard your courseload is. No use taking a 17 unit semester if your GPA suffers.

I already took Bio 01 myself and can say it’s a weeder class. The sheer amount of material you need to learn for exams can be overwhelming at first (and definitely a harder course than Bio 02). I haven’t taken Chem 100 yet, so I can’t comment (taking it this semester), nor Physics 18.

Be honest with yourself…
Did you take high school physics? Did you take high school calculus (basic calc is a necessity for physics 8, not sure about physics 18)? If yes, did you do well and understand the material? If yes, you won’t have a problem…
…Sorry, I can’t speak for bio or chem.
I am of the opinion, that hard work and effective study habits can get you through anything. It’s not BS, I have seen lazy students redouble their efforts, and save themselves from a failing grade (myself included). If, you have no problem giving the time necessary to do this, you won’t have a problem.
