Hi I’m a junior who unfortunately didn’t make the cut for ap english. The teacher said i was pretty close to making it in, but that the class was just too big. She told me that she might accept me 2nd semester. Is this even possible, or is she just saying this to give me false hope? How difficult is the ap exam?

I have no idea what your school does with APs, but in all honesty there is nothing that would necessarily make it so that you aren’t “prepared” My teacher’s philosophy was very straightforward: the class doesn’t “teach” you anything, it just helps you practice. If you’re capable of writing at a 5 level, you’re going to represent that on the actual test. If you’re only capable of writing at a 2 or 3 level, the class is only going to be practicing to help you do better, which is something you can totally do over the first semester if you really want to take the class. Just go on apcentral and start looking at the past prompts. I’d assume the teacher would at least be willing to glance over your efforts.

thanks peppers! ill definitely look around in ap central for that.

I got in second semester of Junior year and ended up with a 5 on the exam.
