Too late for Honor Dorms?

Hi, I was accepted into the OSU Honors Program but there are several schools I am hearing from in early April/late march. I was just told by a friend that you can actually pay your acceptance fee to reserve a room in the honors dorm (just in case) and if you choose to go to another school, you simply lose that deposited money, and that money will not bind you to OSU.
Since it’s already March, I have an odd feeling that enough people have taken up the dorms @_@ but just out of curiosity…
Is this true?

What you’re referring to is double depositing. This thread explains what your friend is telling you to do pretty well. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/183706-double-depositing-not-good-idea.html

Don’t do it.

Now, I think you can double deposit until May 1, i.e. it’s non-binding until 5/1. After that, you have withdraw from one of the colleges.

But you can’t keep hold of a spot until June or July at two or three schools. You also run the risk of getting caught, but I am not sure how they would fight out or if any of them really check.

And I hope honors housing isn’t gone yet.

I hope that honors housing is not gone yet. I also won’t hear from many schools until late March.

Why does everyone think honors housing is gone? No one has even applied for housing yet.

Housing applications will be mailed out in the spring, in the order in which OSU received payment of the acceptance fee.

My daughter was admitted to OSU on the first day in November that admissions started being announced, she paid her acceptance fee as soon as she received it in December, and she has not yet received anything about housing.

Here is what is on the Honors website:

**Honors students must take the following steps to be assigned to an Honors hall:

* Apply to the university (preferably by December 1)

 • Be admitted to the Honors Program
 • Accept Honors Program designation online using your OSU ID no later than May 1
 • Pay the $100 university acceptance fee no later than May 1
 • Specify your Honors Housing interests on your Residence Hall Contract then submit the completed contract and the $250 housing deposit to University Housing

Note: Honors Housing is not guaranteed; assignments are made on a first-come, first-served basis so pay your acceptance fee early AND submit your Residence Hall Contract early.**

[Honors: Housing](http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/honors/Housing.aspx)

I’m in the same situation, 101001000 and sara12. I won’t hear from a couple schools until April 1/possibly late March. At this point, I wouldn’t bother double depositing because you’ll receive your housing app later anyway. I’m just going to fill it out quickly if I decide to go to OSU and hope that others will take longer. I’d imagine there are many honors students in the same situation.
