So, I haven’t been putting too much thought into where I would like to go to college (I’m a senior :/) and I realize that I shouldn’t have procrastinated this. I usually just go with the flow and let things happen, but I think I need to start being more proactive. I am planning on majoring in physics, but the problem is where. I started looking a couple of weeks ago, but I am still not sure where to go to school and it is kind of bumming me out. I would appreciate any suggestions on where to apply.
I live in Kansas City, but I would like to go out of the state (preferably private)
31 on ACT (32, 33, 28, 30)
Over 4.0 GPA (only gotten 1 B)
Taken 6 AP Courses (All that school offers)
Good financial aid would be helpful
4 year varsity soccer (1 year captain, 2 year all-league)
Executive board of key club
Math relay team
NHS junior and senior year
KU Honor Scholar
Can get good letters of recommendation

Apply to Lawrence by 12/1 and check out their Physics workshop. It would give you a good idea is yuo want a small school.
Schools, other than the very top tier, which I am sure others will cover would be Reed, Carleton, and Rose Hulman (though it is primarily an engineering school).

It is not too late for regular decision, so sart researching now and get everything together. Ask for teacher recommendations ASAP.

Will you qualify for need based aid or do you need merit aid?

What do you mean by Lawrence? And I have been on campus on some small schools and they don’t seem to be my thing. Reed seems nice because I really like Oregon, it is pretty. The schools that I have already applied to are:
University of Missouri
Rockhurst University
Kansas State University
DePaul University
Ohio State University
The one that looks the most appealing to me out of all of these is Ohio State, but I know that if I want to go out-of-state, private schools are the way to go. I was considering Vanderbilt, but it would definitely be a stretch because of how late I am getting started, although I am VERY good at pulling stuff off last minute ;)

Waverly- I won’t get much need based aid (white male with combined parents income of 150,000), which is why Vandy looked so appealing (they don’t do need based aid I hear).

While Vandy does have some merit scholarships, they are a need based aid school. I dont think your ACT will get you much in the way of merit aid there.

To get serious merit aid, you need to be at the top of a college’s applicant pool. So those who get the bigger merit awards at Vandy will be those with ivy level grades and scores.

You will have to go significantly down in the rankings for significant money. Look at schools ranked between 50-100 that offer good merit.

That private is the way to go only applies to those with strong stats and also qualify for lots of need based aid. When you’re going to be full pay anywhere, some OOS publics are a bargain.

University of Oregon would probably give you a good merit scholarship.
