Is it too late to send in an additional essay or something along those lines?

From what I heard from friends who work in admissions, they’ve already made decisions. It won’t be too late if you’re wait-listed though.

Do your insider buddies know when decisions are coming out? I’ve been stuck in this process for Northwestern since Halloween.

No idea- not “insider buddies” just work-studies in the admissions office. My guess is some time in the next two weeks.

As a general rule, you should not be sending additional essays just because you decided there’s something else you’d like to say which you think might improve your chances. If everyone did this, the Adcom couldn’t possibly do its job. The only reason to send additional materials after the deadline is if something important has occurred which could be excpected to have a material change on your application. Major awards; major personal events;etc.

thing is, I submitted my app like in september when my essays werent good enuf. After that, in December, i wrote like the greatest essay ever that probly got me the HPME interview. Now, I am really thinking that it is very possible for me to get rejected from the Undergrad and thus totally diminish my chances at HPME. I hear everyone that gets HPME interview should be expected to get admitted, but I really dont think the undergrad and medical school have much correspondance. So, in conclusion, I should not send in anything else and just wait for decisions??

didn’t you get a harvard likely? You should not be worrying about northwestern admissions…

thing is, i just REALLY REALLY want the HPME program and I think I messed up the Northwestern Essays because i applied so early.

It might have been one thing to supplement your app in December, but doing it in mid-March is something else, and suggests a bit of desperation.
But you need to do whatever will let you sleep at night. If things don’t go well, and you’d have this gnawing doubt about whether you should have supplemented, then go ahead.

From my understanding, if you get the HPME interview you’re guaranteed admission.

send the essay. i was in the same situation for 2 of my schools and sent in new essays 2 days ago. Most likely, they will not read it but i guarantee you it cannot hurt. And if you happen to get someone who does read it, it could really be to your benefit. Just think of it this way - what do you have to lose?

ok, I just got into MIT with those essays, but I still have my doubts. I used to think it was the greatest essay I have written, but now that im reading it after like 2 months, it is the cheesiest, most exaggerated thing ive ever read. I dont think it will be worth sending it in. Most likely all decisions are made and its March 15th.

I thought HPME was only accepted applicants that applied RD… They accept ED as well? Or did the OP just submit all the way in September and not late December?

10charc…bump

My guess would be that it’s a little late. Don’t be too surprised if decisions are released sometime late next week. Before anyone asks for my sources, this is just idle speculation.
