Too many letters? Am I in trouble?

I applied to an ivy for early, and I’m scared that I submitted too many letters.

The college explicitly asks for 3. I was planning on submitting 4 (2 teacher, GC, supplemental from prof advisor in a prestigious summer program), but another teacher accidentally submitted one too (naviance whooooo).

So now I have five letters…the silver lining is (I think) they all frame me in difference perspectives

 1. GC rec was about my unique background and family circumstances
 2. English teacher likely praised my writing style
 3. Bio teacher talked about my passion for the subject (I want to be a bio major)
 4. Another teacher (but essentially an ‘advisor/mentor’ b/c I never had them in a class) talked about how I took a leadership role in a new club we had, as well as my science-related ECs
 5. My professor/mentor from (prestigious) summer camp knew me very well, talked about how I performed in the program, collaborated/related with other students etc.

But with that being said, 5 letters is still 5 letters…I am well aware of the fact that adcoms don’t want to be inundated with extra things to read, so is this problematic?

I think this is one of those things that are too easy to overanalyze. They are in and I suspect you will not be the only student with additional letters, and more than likely you will not be the applicant with the most letters. It’s unlikely to be a deal killer and you will have the result soon enough anyway.

In October, Tufts had a blog post about extra letters, etc. which may or may not help.

This. This happened to me too. I was so frustrated at Naviance, because now I have 5 rec letters too for my ED school, and unlike you, I’m honestly worried that not all of them are possibly all too great. I have absolutely no idea what they wrote about me, and I highly doubt each one showed a different perspective of me. At best, they’re all vaguely positive, maybe slightly repetitive. At worst, well. You know. Whoooo Naviance…
