I have been getting way more fake calls this year. Anyone had similar experience?
Agree. I got FIVE just this afternoon. Annoying. And the “do not call list” is a waste of time.
If you have Time Warner Cable (Spectrum), you can ask them to block spam calls. The phone rings once or twice, then stops, if it’s a spam call. It doesn’t catch everything, but I’d say 95% of the time it works (we have it as our business line in our home office). I’m thinking of getting rid of my landline at this point.
I like it when caller-id shows our own number as the incoming number! The most irritating are the robocallers with the fake, “oops, I dropped my headset …”.
I don’t have cable for anything. The phone on my wall is Frontier…I think.
We had a phone number that came with our cable/internet that was only used by the building doorman. Even though it was on the Do Not Call list and not given to anyone, we received a TON of spam calls. When Verizon offered Nomorobo as a free service on our landline, it was amazing. They stopped!
I also started getting lots of spam calls on my cell phone (also registered on the Do Not Call list). I downloaded a couple of free apps, Truecaller and Call Protect, and it’s pretty much taken care of it.
Have you tried NoMoRobo? Spam calls ring once, then that’s it. You just learn not to answer any call on the first ring.
No,I use Cricket
Nomorobo doesn’t work with AT&T where I am
I have AT&T in FL and use Nomorobo. It is very effective.
OK, I need to know more about these apps. Time to research.
I have to answer my phone 24/7 for business reasons and get legitimate calls from many area codes so I can’t ignore because it’s out of area, although more and more scam calls are coming from the same area code as my phone.
I get several robo calls per week despite being on do not call lists for years. Most common is the “dropped my headset” and credit card offers. Very annoying.
“Hi, it’s Rachel, from Cardholder Services!”
I wish AT&T would allow nomorobo in my area. I check intermittently. Still no.
I have caller ID on both on my desk number and of course myy list of contacts in my cell. If a number pops up that I or my cell phone doesn’t recognize I just don’t answer it. I figure if it’s a legit call they’ll leave a message.
If you are an AT&T customer and have an iPhone download AT&T Call Protect. No idea if it is available for Android.
Have both an AT&T iPhone (I just block the unwanted calls) but the issue is the old AT&T dinosaur landline (I keep because I don’t like to give out my cell phone number if I don’t have to) and ditto- if its not a recognized #, it goes to voicemail.
I went into our provider and told them that we were thinking of dropping our phone service because the scam calls vastly outnumbered the real calls. They told us about nomorobo which we have been using ever since. This is a vast improvement and IMHO is pretty much necessary if you want to keep a home phone service at all.
75% of my landline calls are scam. I keep it for my business line…but super annoying. It’s Frontier and they say Nomorobo won’t work and if I want to block calls, I have to pay.
I get quite a few on my cell too.
I mostly use my landline for faxing out. I ignore most incoming calls on landline. Most folks have my cell #
What is this “landline” people some people speak of? Those went out with butter churns and milk men!
