I am junior standing majoring in finance and accounting, I did late withdrawals in almost every semester since the second semester of my freshman year…There are currently 4 "W"s on my transcript…will them matter when I interview for my internships? Will employer ask me about these withdrawals? What effect do these late withdrawals have? Any help would be greatly appreciated…

From my experience interviewing for internships this semester at IU, only about two of the six companies I interviewed with asked for a transcript. I have 2 "W"s on my transcript and I was not asked about them. They don’t look at the transcript during the interview so don’t worry about the question coming up. However, after the interview companies more than likely check if your GPA is accurate, but I’m not sure if they are allowed to see your specific transcript if you yourself don’t provide it.

If they ask after the interview, just be honest about it. Hope that helped.

Thanks for the input thlocke, that helps me alot. I am still wondering if these late withdrawals are negative signs in my graduate school application

Obviously, you want to limit the number of W’s you have. A couple are probably not a big deal, but I don’t think you want to have one each semester. While a W is better than a D or an F, it’s important to keep the “no W” drop date in mind, so you can keep your transcript looking as good as possible. Also, a lot of W’s make graduating in 4 years very difficult.

It’s important that you figure out why you are having this problem. Are you taking more than the average load of classes? Are you using your time effectively throughout the semester, not just the night before a test? Have you taken advantage of all of the academic support/tutoring/office hours that are available?

Bottom line…what’s done, is done. No one can tell you whether or not your 4 W’s are going to be a problem. You can only limit further possible damage by ensuring that you don’t get another one.
