Too much stress for WHAT?

This board has to be one of the most stressed out things I’ve ever seen. I always got the perspective that colleges look at you as an individual and that you’re more than than a number. This obsession over SATs…SATIIs…college admission is ridiculous. College is about growing up and being happy. Instead of obsessing over that perfect 2400, I think it’s wiser to live your life. Nearly every college has happy people having fun and relaxing in their mailings for a reason…

I honestly think that a computer shut-off weekend where you do nothing–and simply do what you want–is needed for many of you. If you don’t live your life and do everything for college, who are you? You’re not a hook for Harvard. You’re a person. Treat yourself like a human being and enjoy life. There’s a reason why universities look for vibrant, happy people who do interesting things for themselves and others. Scores can only get you so far in life.

You is what matters. The real question remains: Are you a number?

i agree, well put.

That does make you feel better about things, esp. if you’re stressing out about scores.

But the bottom line is: unless you have a phenomenal, out-of-this-world “you” (ex. your EC’s), you still need your scores to help you get into college.

For admission to a selective college, the key seems to be balance. Aptitude, as gauged by the standardized tests, is useless without social skills or hobbies to back it up. After all, the adcoms are seeking a diverse, vibrant community–one that doesn’t entirely consist of grade-grubbers and the like!

Having rarely studied, per se, for standardized tests, I would argue that our time is better spent developing interests, preferably outside of the classroom. As long as our passion for those pursuits is authentic, we shouldn’t have too many problems conveying that to the adcoms.

My $0.02! :-)

You deserve some kind of trophy for stating something so blatantly obvious yet so obscure to all these “2400 but I’m going to retake” people. Bravo for refusing to be a statistic!

Bravo to you all for acknowledging this horrifying phenomenon. Life is much more than getting into that Ivy League. It’s about living.

“Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

Meh, I was never very impressed with Thomas Jefferson.

Thomas Jefferson ripped that line off from somewhere else, I think, so I’m not terribly impressed with him either :)

TJ was the man.

**** the haters lol, TJ FTMFW. (But he borrowed 2/3 of that quote from John Locke)

Yeah, there’s really no reason to stress out over test scores so much…cool to discuss them but once you start going paranoid about perfection you fall even further down.

well, it’s more opinion-based than factual!

well said.

well-put, OP…

that helps fromfreakin out for the test this saturday :)

=] Thanks!
