do you think a 20 year old is too old for architecture school? (undergraduate of course)
I started this thread on behalf of a friend; he’s a business major (sophomore) but recently discovered his passion to architecture and creativity. He kind of regret spending two boring years on business.
Do you think he should drop out of business school and go for arch?
I personally don’t know if this is a wise decision…

I think there are really two questions here; is he too old and should he go into architecture at all?

20 years old is certainly not too old to change majors into architecture, and the extra maturity may even be an asset.

Should he go into architecture at all? If he is passionate about it and feels like this is his calling in life. I would certainly think that five years from now when he is graduating that we should be well clear of this mess we are in. However when things started to crater in 2007 I thought we would be well out of it by 2011. I was wrong, this is clearly much deeper than anybody could have anticipated. However, I have a son entering his sophomore year in architecture school, so in the long run I am still optimistic about the profession.
