<p>I personally would choose a safety school just by some odd chance that you do not get accepted to either. Better to have one than nothing…</p>

<p>Yes, too short. give yourself some options to think about in the months after application deadline. It isn’t unusual to be turned down when expecting you are well in-range, with the current historic low admit rates. Your safety shouldn’t be a default, it should be a chosen school that you would be pleased to attend. And it should be a true safety.</p>
<p>Nephew1 applied to ONE university. He got in, and has been very happy there. It is his home state public U, he knew he would be admitted based on his stats (the U posts test scores and GPAs that guarantee admission right on the website), and it offers one of the top programs in the nation for his major. Not to mention that he flat-out refused to apply anywhere that required an essay.</p>
<p>It is absolutely OK to have a very short list. However, that list needs to include at least one place that you can pay for without any financial aid other than federally determined (FAFSA) aid, and that will also guarantee you admission based on your stats.</p>
<p>I was thinking my back up would be the Texas CAP program, but I guess there is a chance I could be denied an offer to enroll in the CAP program. I could make my back up Texas A&M since I meet the requirements for automatic admission.</p>
